5 speed auto code P0744

I have a weird problem, i bought an 04 Maxima SE with 121k on it. The previous owner had some clueless people working on it. I've read some of the threads on the problem but i believe mine to be slightly different. I bought the car with a blown ABS module. The girl that owned it said she had a friend remove the ground from the ABS module because the car would not downshift once it got up to speed. Well thats kinda weird i mean the guy could have just pulled the fuse for the ABS out....anyway....here is the weird part. I drove the car home from South Carolina to Maine with no problems....just had no speedometer. I replaced the ABS module and the ABS now works fine, speedo works and also the ABS and brake lights are no longer lit on the dash. So i go for a test drive and the not 2 miles into the ride i hear a bang and the trans is stuck in i believe 4th gear and the check engine light lights up with a P0744 code. I turn the car off.....the car shift normally for a minute or so and then it's back to being stuck in 4th gear. The weird part is that if i pull the fuse out for the ABS the transmission works perfectly fine...just like when i drove it from SC to Maine. So according to threads on here of you have code P0744 get ready to replace the trans......well the trans works perfect with the ABS fuse out......so what is it about the abs that causes the trans to **** up? If the people that had this problem and went and spent a couple thousand $ to replace the trans had pulled their ABS fuse....would the trans have worked properly? I'm clueless as to where to go from here. Do i install a transgo shiftkit? Do i replace trans? Replacing trans sounds rediculous since it works fine when the ABS is disables. Maybe i stumbled upon the real reason these trans fail? HELP! Oh and according to the previous owner the trans was replaced or rebuilt at some point.

Are these 6th Gen Max filled with problems?

All i see on this forum is nothing but people complaining about their cars.
Just curious.

dude that is the camshaft position sensor problem. Take it to nissan and have them replace it or buy and replace it yourself. I had the same thing.

you sure neither one was dead out the box. I would do the ohm test talked about in the service manual to ensure they are working correctly.
