difference between 04/05 vq35

does anyone know why I am being told an 05 maxima engine won't fit in an 04? the 04 has a 4 speed auto and the 05 has a 5 speed auto. I was told it could be an upper oil pan difference? or perhaps a cam or crank sensor?

If you have one of the early 04 SL that came with a 4 speed auto, it may require more work, but i would think they are compatible. All SE 04 are 5AT unless 6 speed manual. And most SL 04 are 5AT unless an early model with a 4 speed.

Many are swapping vq35's in 5th and 4th gens.

whoever told you that is a dodo head,

VQ35DEs 2002-2008

from 2002-2003 the only difference was they didnt have a EGR on the upper manifold

from 2004-2006 4AT / 5AT / 6SPD , doesnt matter cause the tranny bolts up the same , no change in casting.

from 2007-2008 only difference was the VIAS is made out of plastic.

VQs are the same

any info on who told you this? I was under the same impression that all VQ35's were the same (except the EGR on 04-06) but many here know more about matching up with different trans and the computers involved.

Well the casting are always the same , 4AT / 5AT / 6SPD / 5SPD

Ive done from a 5AT to 6SPD swap in a A34

My buddy has a A32 with a 5spd to VQ35DE

The difference is the TCM for the 4AT/5AT which has nothing to do with the engine itself. just used differnt axles from 4AT/5AT/ 5SPD / 6SPD

if your looking for a replacement motors, again you can get a murano/altima/maxima
that all are FWD motors.

you cant use the RWD due to the timming chain covers and the casting for the motor mounts.

again 2002-2003 no egr

2004-2008 egr

i am planning to put 06 vq35 into an 03. I know i have to swap out intake manifolds due to egr. My understanding is that the crank pos sensor is in a different location so some are saying to use the same harness but since 06 has egr it will have vsvs as well right? and other stuff. I am planning to use the same ecm that i have already. SO the only feasible thing is to extend the wires for the crank position sensor or modify them. Is that the best way???
