04 maxima Transmission issue (Yupe me too now)

my tranny starts shifts into drive .. drives for a bit and then loses it ... the car does not engage in any gear

i have to wait and let it sit for a little bit before i can start again ... get abt 2-3 miles and then it just slips of the gears and revs up like its in neutral

i can shift from D to P without even hitting the breaks ...

Time for a new tranny ?

anyone else exp this problem ?

Did you notice any of below symptoms before your transmission behaving like this? According to winterfraust on this forum, signs of transmission going out are:

1) slip from 1-2 and then hard bang
2) no engagement from 2-1 on light deceleration then a hard bang
3) trans stuck in 5th (5at)
4) no engagement in any gear

How many mileages in your car? When was your last oil change? How's your oil looking right now? How about motor mount? I am just following all common check points advised by many maxima owners on this forum.

I had not bang shifts but like kind of some rough shifts from 2-3 and 3-2. I simply drained and refilled transmission oil and now my car shifts much better. However I still get R-D and D-R knock. My next plan is to drain and refill twice again (in another word transmission flush to remove 85% of oil) very soon.

It’s bad man to deal with couple of high ticket items repair in our cars.

ALL

just did a drain and fill a month ago too

it was slipping a little in the day yesterday and at night it just gave out ...

i have a 130k miles on my car now

and reading all this i think mines a soldier

its fully bolted and on nitrous

so i guess 130k is an accomplishment lol ...

but yea the cars just sitting there

i plan on taking it apart myself and getting a close look to why its doing that

Thant's bad.....big "Boo Boo" from Nissan and don't even care about clean this up. I am planing on drain-refill transmission oil twice together with radiator coolant drain-refill as well. I am also adding radiator relief what Chern has been using in his red maxima I believe.

Edit: I scanned my car at Autozone (No CEL light) and showing no codes what so ever. I am not sure our transmissions are just going out without spitting any ODBI codes ahead of time. I am at 113k right now.

I agree. My transmission began geting stuck in 5th gear at 102k, and I can not beleive Nissan will not take any responsibility for this disaster.(I had to replace it at 104k)

Taz,

Its probably your precats from racingline thats causing the trouble. I think you should give the precats to me.

But in all seriousiness, I hope you get this problem fixed.

You could be right dear; at least I am not a mechanic. However just so you know, the word "oil" that was mentioned in my replay was belongs to transmission oil, not an engine oil. My apology if that makes you little confused.

Don't mean to hi-jack the post but my tranny just died!

06 w/ 123K miles.

My mechanic has found a tranny at the junkyard with about 40K miles on it. My question go for this one which will be about $2100+. Or go with the one from Nissan (re-manu?) for $3500+ ???

Oh, and i'm still paying monthly payments on this car! About a year left.

But you know what, I still love my Maxima

Get the remanufactured from Nissan. It comes with a 12/12 warranty in case anything goes wrong.
