Another tranny problem?
Another tranny problem?
OK, took my 04 Maxima to Nissan to get est on a new tranny (automatic with the sport shift). They came back saying the tranny is fine just need new motor mounts (would be nice if that is it, highly doubt it). I think they are full of BS, here is my tranny problem. When you are in reverse and do not come to a total stop and shift into drive there is a brief delay in the tranny going into gear and the RPMs go up then the tranny slams into gear if you are not quick off the gas pedal. Another time we notice it is when you are driving down the road and you are coming to a red light off the gas (no brake) light turns green and back on the gas, RMPs go up and once again need to be quick off the gas or the tranny slams inot gear. This does not happen all the time, once maybe every other week. When it happens it is an all day ordeal and then may not happen for a week or two. To me there is some sort of synchronizer problem in the tranny. Any ideas??? I know bad tranny

i had the same issues at low speeds... had my valve body replaced. car drives great. i would recommend this. save yourself the grief. there is a problem in the valve body. if you live in the toronto area, i have a great contact for a shop that deals with with valve body builders. ps nissan makes really good motor mounts. do this before the gears break.
Don't bother going through the dealership. They will quote you for a refurbished tranny that will approximately cost you $3,225 with labor included. Best bet, take it to a transmission specialist and could be that it may the valve body....if so, there are several options to fix that
hey

Ordering a valve body. Where would be the best place to get one? I am avout to order one from http://valvebodybuilders.com. Anyone have good or bad luck from these guys?
Im having the same problem with my tranny. I went ahead and replaced the motor mounts since they were shot anyway and that cured some of the "roughness" that was happening at times. However, it still jerks and bangs in the same situations you are describing so I guess thats my next step..
Why don't you take it to another Nissan dealership and/or a decent independent repair shop for another opinion before you start buying parts? And, unless you're planning to do the work, bringing in the part yourself (as vs. letting the shop make the profit on it) is usually considered cheap and low class, isn't it? Not the best way to establish a business relationship!

http://forums.maxima.org/7400151-post3.html <--- take a look at this, very useful information here. I highly recommend replacing your motor mounts as well. Might want to get Racingline's motor mount inserts.
yeah i got my valve body from them, but your gonna have to get a transmission specialist to read off some numbers tagged to your valve body. to get that your gonna have to pull the valve body. then they will send you the correct one. only way they will send it and the usually deal with trans shops only.
yeah this is where you would need to have your valve body pulled. a tranny tech. would be able to give that information. car would be down for about 2 days. my guy was able to give that info and he sent the valve body in less than a day, so if you do it in the morning you may get it in the afternoon, assuming you live in the toronto area.
Maxima 2004 Tranny Issues
My car is being fixed, of course, for tranny issues. I purchased an after market warranty four months ago. From what mechanic told me, these tranny's were installed in maxima's and subaru's. the company that made them no longer makes these particular tranny's. the issue did not get fixed or resolved until the 06 maxima's. the software and the tranny itself are flawed and nissan knows this. call nissan for a warranty, which they will not sell u. but then ask for a company they recommend. they will give u info and please call and purchase. you will need for the headaches that are about to come with this year car. when fixed, u do not want the same tranny in. you want it replaced with the upgraded model, a 2006 where all the issues were fixed. if they put same model in, u will be back at square one again. i hope this helps.
the tranny's are faulty and can not be fixed unless a 2006 tranny is put in!!! great cars but this problem is too extensive and nissan should have issued a recall on a problem that they know aboout!!!

hello all,
I took my car to the dealership ( 158,200 miles )because of similar problems. The car still runs good but the dealer mentioned that the trans is leaking in 3 places. On the exhaust, cooler seal and factory seal and pan. Can someone break this down in english( LOL) for me. Do I need a new trans or those leaks can be repaired at a tranns shop?
