LED Tails - Need some help....

Hi gents,

The wife got me a pair of LED tails for xmas. I got them installed when I did the tranny flush and an oil change at my mechanics. They look nice, however, when I signal, they blink crazy fast as do the front. I am not certain if I have to change anything (resistor or some other component perhaps) to get the blinking down to normal.

I will post some pics of the lights as soon as I get home from work today.

If anyone can help please chime in.

Thanks in advance!!

It's the connection. Disconnect the plug and adjust the receptors a bit. Plug them back in and test them. Do not screw the lights back in place until you have tested them. That way you do not waste time. This happens with some peoples lights when they first plug them in. Good luck. You will LOVE them!!!

Thanks for the help man - I took the lights apart and did not see anything wrong, all the plugs are correct. To be quite honest with you, I kinda like the faster blinking - it's different.

I will post pics later today, have an 8 month old with a runny nose so it's chaos mixed with a little armageddon at the house.

Well problem solved . But visually the connectors wont look wrong, you just have to make sure they are all making proper contact when plugged in, which may require some bending. That will make it blink at a normal pace

You probably need a resistor inline with the signal wire.

Don't waste your time bending or adjusting anything, you need to install a load resistor, I put mine behind the rear lamp assemblies. The vendor you got the LED's from will have what you need.

Thanks for the info guys!

Proceedbob - checked out the link and am ordering a set of the RL-650's as we speak, just waiting on a reply from them in regards to shipping since I'm in Toronto.

Jsmith - I know what you mean man - I thought it was the only option I had with the LED's so I was content with it. Thanks to you guys I can get away from that 1997/rookie fast blink

What brand are the tails? Are they just LED bulbs or the whole unit like A5703's tails? If they're the whole unit, then they should already have load equalizers in it and it's the connection. If you just replaced the bulbs to LED, then yes you will need the load equalizers.

It's the whole unit. I even had my mechanic double check the connection points and everything seemed fine. I did get a response back from Bill @ superbrightleds.com and he sent me this link ->

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...2Fflashers.htm

Waiting on his reply on the whole shipping thing as they have a minimum you have to order. I think this will remedy the whole issue but am not 100% sure. I am willing to part with $20 to see if it works however.

Oh, and they are the Spec-D Tuning ones; link below ->

There is no flasher relay. The rate of flash is controlled by the BCU.

I've got the same ones. You need a load resistor. I got mine from VLEDS

I just saw your link, i'm thinking that style did not come with resistors...

LEDs have such a low power draw, the car thinks your bulbs are out and it's telling you to replace them.
search will show you pics to adjust the connectors if you bought the entire setup.

If you just have LED for the rear, you need to add 6 ohm resistors to both left and right. If you also have LEDs in the front (all 4 corners LED) you need 3 ohm resistors only at one end of the car, left and right.

Makes sense to me now - thanks!

NismoMax80 - I think so as well as we could not find anything wrong with the initial setup.

Bootz - I assume you went with this option ->

http://www.v-leds.com/BlinkerWarning...-p4783296.html

I also see another option which is ->

http://www.v-leds.com/BlinkerWarning...-p8726800.html

or

http://www.v-leds.com/BlinkerWarning...-p8795272.html

I'm not sure if either of those two would be a better option.

Price is a bit higher on the other two options but I'm willing to part with the $$$ as I want this to look decent.

Yup, those are the ones!

The other two links just give you different mounting options since they get so hot.

update - just placed order for two of the 6 Ohm 50W 2 Bulb LED Load Equalizer Resisitors Turn Signal Blinker Fix from V-Leds (thanks to Bootz and the rest of the guys for the help!!) - should receive them within a few days and will get them installed.

i'll post pics later of the installed lights

04slvr - not sure what you mean dude - i only installed the assembly, nothing else, it was easy plug and play, or so I thought until the hyper blinking started

i think he's asking if you you also changed the reverse bulbs. (the other version of tails does not come with reverse lights. you keep your stock bulbs or change to LED bulbs.) not sure if your version has LED reverse or uses stock? although that would have no affect on your fast blinking.

My entire car has LEDs from VLED, great quality. just have to wait for a 15-20% coupon.

oh, I am not sure to be quite honest with you. I think it came with the lights as I did nothing expect connected them. I can check with my tech guy as he also helped me the 2nd time around to check on the whole "hyper-blink" issue as I thought I must have made some mistake during hookup.

NismoMax80 -> good to hear that VLED is great quality brother - can't wait to get these resistors installed!

Quick question: I have the LED switchbacks installed in my front lights and I plan on buying the LED Tails tomorrow. Will I need to get load resistors since I have switchbacks even if the LED tails come with load resistors installed?

I got my LED tails finally installed and they are working perfectly fine. Except my left signal is not working. I took off the connector and plugged it back in numerous times and I also bent it it so ensure it would make contact but it will not signal. A cop stipped me to let me know and I so thought I was in trouble. I don't know what else I can do. Would ezkoncepts send me an exchange for the left tail?? I got them about three weksa go.
