Factory Remote Start Sometimes Works

My remote start was installed by Sansone Nissan when we bought the car in 05. It's been funky since we bought it I don't know why we didn't go in when we had warranty, but anyway. The remote starts works whenever it feels like working. This morning before work it worked then I got to work and pressed the lock button one too many times and tried the start procedure and got nothing. It's the factory keyfob, does anyone have any idea how these are programmed or wired?

Yikes, IMO you should never install a remote start aftere the car has been built. Even though the Dealer is doing it your still cutting into a wiring harness which they are no more quallified to do than anyone else and now that your outside the warranty you basically have to go get it troubleshot and pay. It can be anything.

This might be a long shot but make sure your car battery is good. That happened to my wife's xterra, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't, sometimes it would start, shut off, start, shut off. We had to change the battery because it died and coincidentally, this car starter issue hasn't surfaced.

This also happened during the cold Massachusetts weather, so perhaps the CCA wasn't up to par? You're from NY, give that a shot. Keep us posted.

It sounds like one of three things.... Most common bad ground on the brain. salt dust condensation sometimes the self tapper comes loose. 2nd if your battery has died or got below 10.8v sometimes the programming gets screwy on the bi-pass (a sep unit from the brain to trick your car that the key is in the car). 3rd the antenna has gone bad I know a couple years ago we had a whole **** load of DEI products that had the same problem and was all a bad antenna. The crappy thing about it is even for a installer is the only way to solve is it is to replicate the problem and get a meter on it. I would highly recommend you have a professional look at it, because alot of the max's remote start is tied to the ECU and they are pretty easy to fry.

buy quality remote starter and have it installed by a quality tech....
key bypass is ****. loop wire around your valet key and tape it under the steering.... works all the time, all temperatures,....

And if someone opens your door, dismantles your dash, removes tape on your starter install, finds the key and steals your car, they deserve to steal it, honestly. It would have been faster to tow it....
