Maxima Drivers Seat Gives Me Extreme Back Pain

After 1 hour of driving my back is in lots of pain from the drivers seat. The pain hits around the 40 minute mark then I'm in pain the last 20 minutes of the trip. No matter how I adjust the seats its very uncomfortable. The good side I rarely ever drive 1 hour away from the house. Many short trips 5 - 10 miles round trip.
Maybe its me, and my back. My previous car 94 Formula gave me back pain too, but I think this car is more severe. I don't remember ever having a problem in the 92 Taurus, but I was younger then too.

Anyone else have back pain with the drivers seat? The rear seats seem comfortable, but that was only sitting in them for a few minutes. I will have some minor back pain the rest of tonight, and hopefully tomorrow its gone.

Has to be something else. I regularly drive mine back and forth from the west and east coast and have done runs from AZ to NY straight includinig sleeping for two hours naps at rest stops. Back never hurt and seat is comfortable.

Mine definetly aren't the most comfortable seats I've been in and at first did give me some back pain after driving an hour or so. I pumped up the lumbar support and that pretty took care of the pain. Hopefully your car has that feature.

39 years old. I have a manual lever for lumbar support that I use, but it doesn't help my back. Thought it did until I took a longer drive.

I deff agree I went from a 05 Toyota solara AMAZINGLY comfortable seats to the max thats about the only thing I dont like about the interior. They are very stiff.

ditto except I came out of a vw passat. I hated how you adjusted those seats but they were comfortable. Surprisingly enough though I think my 04 WRX had the most comfortable seats of any car I've had.

Back pain sucks. I don't think the Maxima seats are any worse than other car seats. In fact, I find the Maxima seats to be pretty comfy for me on long drives and I have had a bad back for about 10 years now. I'm also 39 years old but hurt my back from back body mechanics in my "younger" years.
My wife has a 2005 Subaru Outback XT which has HORRIBLE seats. I also have a Z4 without sport seats and my back also starts to hurt after 1 hour. I can take a 3-4 hour trip in the Maxima without any problems.

You may need to see a chiropractor or orthopedic doctor. Maybe a physical therapist? Car seats are not ergonomically correct because you sit so low so all your weight gets put on your lower back. I have a friend that was having back problems. He was driving a 3-series and his chiropractor told him to get an SUV since you sit more upright, you actually sit more ergonomically correct. Your thighs should be parallel to the floor so for now, try to adjust your seat to get your thighs to be as parallel as possible to the floor. Also try a lumbar pillow.

I find Audi/VW seats to be very comfy too.

I have driven my 04 to Montreal (5 hours) and to visit my in-laws in Oakhurst NJ (8-9 hour drive). No issues whatsoever with the seats. Comfy, enough support. I have two settings, one for daily driving and one for cruising and long drives.

I am 28 and do not have any history with back or lower back problems. The seats on my old Ford sucked b@lls, then again, it was a Ford so....

This winter, snowboarding or my gf's sleep # bed have been messing up my lower right side...
Always and even recently my seat is still perfect even on 3 hour trips.

now driving her Subaru Legacy for 2 hours made me feel old. I realized how much I love my Maxima's seat.

you have to really sit there and adjust it keeping some things in mind about ergonomics. http://www.spine-health.com/wellness...ing-ergonomics

I would get a membership at your local gym and leave this forum to repair topics only, there are enough bs posts here already.

I work at a auto upholstery shop, we get a lot of ppl with this same problem back rest gives me back pain, few ways it could be fix, adding more foam to the back rest softer or harder, depending on the person. Just a lil bit of my advice

Is the pain in the lower back?

I do understand where you're coming from because my 2001 SE gives me thigh pain. My legs are longer than the average guy, especially the thighs, so I'm going to have the seat modified to add length.

As we speak, the short seat (for me) cuts into my thighs and eventually makes it way to my lower back.

EDIT: Just to clarify - initially it's a thigh stress that I feel, it's as if my legs are never "settled" into the seat and eventually that stress makes its way to my lower back.
