Anyone using Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF instead of matic K?
I know alot of people use amsoil with success, but I wonder if mobil 1 syn atf is a good choice instead of matic K. I dont really feel like paying a hefty charge at the dealership if I can get synthetic at a lower price.
Thanks

I have heard good and bad from Amsoil users. I decided to stay with K matic this cycle. I don't know anyone using Mobil why would you? If your going off K Matic Amsoil has to be better than Mobil 1. Their motor oil certainly is.

I think I read somewhere that Dexron III met D matic but not K matic. I also remember a couple of guys who thought they felt the shifting change a little when they put Amsoil in. I almsot tried it but the cost was the same. I woldn't touch anything but Nissan K or Amsoil for tranny.

Ordered 12 quarts of k matic from the dealer... :P I'll do the flush this weekend. Ill keep you updated w the results.
Dealer said there is no gasket for the pan that it's just permatex?
You guys re-sealed the pan w permatex?

Like in the "how to" of the fluid and lubricant section.
I'll drop the pan, clean it, clean the screen, clean the magnets, add 3-4 quarts. Then unplug the cooling tube out of the rad, start engine, let 2 quarts out, add 2 quarts. start engine, let 2 quarts out, add 2 quarts.
That way there wont be any solvents or anything bad going in, and everything will go the normal way, smoothly, and ill replace maybe like 90-95% of the atf.

I have switched to Mobil 1 about 15k miles ago, no problems and smooth shifts so far. Maybe its my imigination but seems to shift smoother, especially in the cold mornings since making the switch. my Max is an 05 now with about 77k miles

Whole internet is flooded with transmission problems on this car already. Experimenting with changing OEM Nissan Matic K with aftermarket mobile atf or amsoil and whatnot is a bad idea. What you do is you put Nissan Matic K as prescribed by manufacturer and stop this discussion right now if you would please. Like I said people have enough problems with this transmission already, let's not make the situation even worse than it is.

Oh well, no ATF lines from tranny to rad in 5at. Hoses are coolant that run into tranny to cool it. No way to do the trick that was done on 4AT. No pan, no magnets(except on drain plug), no nothing.
Only thing you can do is drain and fill 3x I guess.

I did drain and refill 3 times, with a short 5 min run between drains.
First drain was all brown and seemed thick.
Second drain was still brown, less thick.
Third drain was red-brown, mostly liquid.
Took exactly 8 liters to drain 3x. 2.6 liters every flush.
Cant tell if tranny is smoother or not, it's snowing here so wheels slip anyway. I did not have major problems, but I expecienced rough shifts sometimes. Seems just fine.
There were some "bits" of stuff in the atf drained fluid, like friction material. Normal?
Thanks

Update: After 3 drains/refill, tranny is MUCH BETTER. Drove it hard trying to get it to slam and it just did not. WOT downshifts are smooth. everything is smooth. Looks like it solved my problem for now.
I drained a crapload of friction material chunks. Maybe that was all getting caugh in places it wasnt meant to. Anyway, I'll do one last drain/refill in like 3 months and thats gona be it, after that I guess ill do one every year.

2.6 liters every drain. 3 times. used nissan K matic. Shifting is way better now.
Bought a case of 12 liters, so I got 4 left after 3 drains. I'll do a last one soon, and keep 1 for touch ups I guess.
I think I'll do a drain/fill every 30 000km now.

I have an 04 that wasnt taken care of by previous owners. I read that you cant flush these and thats probably a big reason they got so many problems. Im glad to hear that just a drain and fill helps them out a lot, looks like I got something to do this weekend lol.

not one, 3. Make sure car is fully heated before first drain. Drove 5 min in between, switching all gears. Stay on reverse for a while.
First drain was thick and black, 2nd was better, 3rd was starting to have some pink. Shift is definitely better.
I will do a 4th drain and fill soon cause I have some spare fluid.

What'd that cost you? That stuff isn't cheap.

I went to Conrads GoodYear and I had all of my trans fluid sucked out and replaced with QMI Synthetic about 6 months ago when i was at @71,000 miles. My old fluid was dark but without any metal shavings. I did the drain and fill at 60,000 and it helped but not by much. Now the shifts are smooth, when warm it's like a CVT, I can barely notice any shifts. The harsh P-R shifts are gone and I rarely get the hard 3-2 down shift, mostly if the trans is still cold. I went with synthetic over the Nissan K Matic because the trans were failing with Nissan's and it was the best fluid on the market for these trans when it rolled off of the assembly line. Since 2003 these synthetics have been developed and produce superior results and performance. I will not have to touch this fluid for 40,000 more miles, I'm at 81,000 now and feel very secure in my research, decision and results. The cost was @$110 for the service. Go to qmiitw.com to read more on this product.

Funny story, I used to work at the Conrad's in Rocky River and made trips to the FP location all the time. It's been a very long time though but that's where I got my start in the automotive industry.

That's the one I go to!! On Center Ridge. They do a good service at a good price, oil change for $19! They also replaced my AC hose for me for around $100, IIRC.

I switched to M1 at 105,000. Marked improvement across the spectrum in terms of shifting, R-D gear change, etc. I'm at 172,000 today and have had no issues. The improvement at 105,000 is more due to the fact that the trans fluid had never been swapped before than a K-Matic versus M1. I'm happy with M1 and it's easily available at the auto parts store.
