AC Temp Settings Issues

I was wondering if anyone else had some issues with the temperature on the AC. It seems that with 61* its cool, but if I go to 62* it feels like its trowing some heat instead of a less cooler air. So if I want cool air I only got from 60*-61* to work with, Anyone???

For starters, what's your outside temp when you're seeing this?

Second, I keep mine set anywhere between 72 and 77. When I start up, it tends to blow cold for the first 20 minutes or so, then the climate control tapers off, so I start out higher, and then lower a little as the CC is adjusting. I've never been below 70, what are you doing down at 60???

Mine does the same thing. Anything above 61 will blow hot air. I think my interior temp. sensor must be bad or something.

I've always wondered if it is just an issue with the venting itself? That when the AC is on and the temp is not set at 60, is it the case that there is hot air funneled in to offset the cool air temp from AC? Sounds quite rudimentary, but I wonder if that is all that it is. That is, that our system is no more than a series of vents that guide air into the cabin, and that achieving exact cabin temp is just a lofty ideal that cannot in practiced be attained?

if you sit straight with you hands on the steering wheel (10 and 2) lower your right arm about 12 inches and make a pointer. lean forward and you will be pointing right at it. its where your right knee is and is behind a slotted hole in the plastic. you will need to take the whole cover off to get in there (takes 1 min and 40 seconds for me cause i know where the 3 screws are) or you can reach in there like Chuck Norris and blindly unscrew the harness with your fingers.

i think there is a way to calibrate the system. i've never done it before but its in the secrete menu options.

- Start Engine [required if you want to see all available diagnostic options]
- Turn OFF the Audio system
- While pushing the SETTING button, rotate the radio's VOLUME control counter-clockwise 30+ clicks.
- You will then be put into the diagnostic mode aka secrete menu
- Use the BACK button to get to previous screens.

from there is an HVAC option that should help you out.

lol many of you are like WTF? i didn't know this what there?! HUUU??

mine does the same thing but i've never cared enough to fix it because i either like the temp HOT or COLD and adjust the intensity to my liking.

That's the problem then. Outside sensor may need to be replaced...not sure where it is though...

The outside temp sensor is located behind the front bumper on the radiator support. Its a small sensor about 2 inches long with a probe at the end, hehe.

Resurrecting an old thread - was the exact cause of this ever determined? I have a 2004 Maxima and I have the exact same symptoms - only 60/61° blows cool air, everything above that blows hot air (seems like heat is either "on" or "off"). Additionally, my outside temperature always displays -22°. Is this just one temperature sensor gone bad, or do I have multiple problems here?

Thanks in advance!

Run the self diagnostic on the climate control system. It starts on page 42 of the ATC section of the FSM.

Download it from here:
