2004 Maxima SE Rotors and Pads

I have a 04 SE with 131K miles. I still have the original rotors (turned once). These things warp in no time. I want to upgrade the rotors to a high quality stock replacement or slotted rotors. It does not get driven hard, but sees a lot of city driving. My main priority is to prevent warping. I hate the brake judder. I have no complaints about the stock pads, but would consider any suggestions for upgraded ceramic pads.

I just put some rotorpro rotors on my max and some ceramic wearever pads from advance auto and they're working out fine for everyday driving. had to pick up some pads quick since rotorpros sent me the wrong ones. plus side though, the wearever pads have a lifetime warranty wish they had the hawks when i went.

I do 75% highway driving so my opinion may not be as valid for your scenario but I got RTP rotors and Axxis pads. The price was right which is why I went with these over OEM.

Check the Group Buys section of this forum. I believe the seller is AutoMax95 or something like that. One year and 25K miles later, no warpage.

To be honest, I have used many rotors and pads even though including the one from advance auto and autozone ones. I have had some success with rotorpros but in my personal experience I would rate power slot slotted and hawk hps pads as the best combination set-up. However this may not be the best set-up for all.

I'm using NAPA OE style rotors and PosiQuiet ceramics front and rear. I have no issues with it.

I have OEM rotors still at 85K miles, they are fine, but they are warped since day 1 I got the car. I dislike the brake feel, but oh well, they work fine.

As for pads, I got Hawk HPS, but I regret it because they dust alot. They are very effective, but you clean your wheels, drive one day, and they are dirty again. They work much better when hot (they work perfectly fine when cold, just not better than OEM). I read some reviews that they would be "dangerous or not work when cold and wet". I have had them for 2 years in quebec, including winter driving, spring, fall, whatever. They work fine under all conditions. Problem is, they never get hot during normal use, unless you brake like an idiot all the time. Next pad change will be ceramic for sure, because lets face it, most of us use our cars for normal driving, and we dont need race pads.

I went with this setup here: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/se...P15K092&submit=
After a week's worth of driving, so far so good.

PBR Ultimates for pads are what I have on my cross driled and slotted rotors. They are built for high heat and will stop you in an instant. Brake dust is high but its worth the stopping power.

I am looking at EBC USR slotted rotors with EBC redstuff pads. I have heard good things about the rotors but mixed reviews for the redstuff pads. Does anyone have experience with them? I am afraid the life may be poor and they may be too aggressive for a strictly street car. Thanks for the input

Here are the R1concept I bought last month together with centric ceramic pads for $190 shipped. These are zinc plated but I will be painting them black pretty soon.

What about drilled rotors cracking of excessive slotted pad wear?
Worth it over OEM, or it's just about looks and lower durability?

I have not installed them yet. I will be painting them black before I install them. I will let you know how they are performing once I installed them. Yeah I got them with good price. They usually sale for $230 for all four but seller had discounted price when I ordered mine. These rotors are awesome and also bit heavier than rotorpros or powerslots.

I still can't help but laugh. In 131,000 miles you've had the stock rotors turned once!!! How long do you expect them to last? Call Summit Racing and get some that are made by brembo. They look like stock rotors (i.e. no slots, no holes).

Whats the issue with having original rotors at 130K? Not like they will explode at 150K. If you turn them 2-3 times and they are too thin and warp. If you dont touch them they will last.

The issue with not touching them is that when you replace the pads and they don't get machined, you casue more harm than good.

Nothing wrong with it at all. I was just laughing because he said they warp in no time and yet he has 131,000 miles.

I meant that they have been warped since about 30K. I turned them at 90K and it happened again. Now @ 131K, I want to try an aftermarket solution. Like many common problems with this car, you just have to live with them. It sucks, because I was an engineer at the Nissan TN engine plant when I bought this car. I have no complaints about the engine, but am experiencing the trans shifting issues and saving for the valve body fix/swap. My wife has always owned Toyota and I purchased another one last year. They don't have the passion or looks of a Nissan, but they hold up well and just require regular maintenance. Nissans have the performance and styling, but you have to learn to live with some of the drawbacks.

I have 155,840 miles on my 04 max and I changed my rotors after 130,000 with factory ones. I figured I got that many miles with them why not use them again. I always used factory pads until last week I tried the pepboys premium pads. So far so good. Anybody else try these pads?

^^Looks good man.

I just found this thread in classifieds and thought that I would share with people in case they missed it.

http://forums.maxima.org/6th-generat...roup-deal.html

Just emailed the company and the promo code still works. $215 shipped F+R slotted and drilled rotors! Great deal on some high quality rotors.

Thanks pal.

$180 for R1 concept rotors + centric ceramic pads
$10 for paint
3 hours of my own time to paint them

Worth it I guess.
