Leaving The 2008 Maxima in Manuel mode, needing Advice!
hey I just bought this 2008 maxima and I like the Cvt Transmisson but I noticed when I changed it to Manuel Mode that if I left my foot buried on the pedal that it still changed gears like a normal automatic transmisson, My question is , Is it alright to leave the car in Manuel Mode and floor the car and let it change gears by itself or will this F up the transmisson? Thanks in adavnce

The computer will take action to guard against catastrophic damage to the tranny. So, it probably shifted to a higher gear to protect it. I say catastrophic because I think the computer can only do so much to protect the tranny from misuse and abuse.
ON that note, I am not sure what your winters are like Illinois, but mine are cold enough that, on certain chilly days, I do not have the option to put the tranny in manual mode until it is sufficiently warmed up.

Just use a little common sense. We all know that the harder you push your car the worse it is on its life expectancy and maintenance. if you car hangs around in the rpm range close to red line, your pushing your car hard over time you will begin to notice problem and loss of power. Im talking 5-10 years over time. if you car shifts like it would in a normal car with your foot buried then why would you be concerned about if its bad for the car or not. lets take the relative out of bad. it is bad to always hot rod your car. with that said, it is not "worse" to leave it in Manuel mode unless it sticks longer then it should before the computer intervenes and up shifts. even if that was the case, that extra second its maxed out isn't going to be a significant change in "badness"
short answer. NO but use that brain of yours and you'll understand why. don't take peoples word for anything, think through your questions so you learn something.

If you asked me, I will say DO NOT DO THAT!!! In my opinion, you are ruining your tranny.
I understand manual to mean you want to be in control of changing the gears manually. So, why put in manual and you want the car to auto-shift it? It stresses itself more than when it is in auto.
If you need the car to shift by itself, put in AUTO. If you want to manaully change the gears put in MANUAL. Except you don't want your car to last.

common sense will say dont do that man...
a lot of times when it changes gears by itself, it jumps 2 gears higher so if your in 2nd and your flooring it, itll jump to 4th so it doesnt damage the tranny.
if you dont want to change gears, leave it in D -- simple.
if you want to do it manually, do it manually by changing the gears - not letting the computer do it.
