NISSAN did right by me.
NISSAN did right by me.
I recently bought an '05 SE. It only had 38k miles and still had that new car smell. So why was it priced well below market? I took it to the dealer for a pre-purchase inspection and they told me about the dreaded timing chain tensioner thing. They quoted $1600 to do the tensioners and all the chains, which I used to negotiate an even lower price.
From my research on this forum, I was going to buy the parts for TSB NTB07-042c from Southpoint NISSAN and have a local mechanic who charges reasonable rates do the work. That would save me substantial bucks versus the stealership.
Before I did that, I thought I'd try one thing. The service manager at my local NISSAN dealer mentioned that occasionally NISSAN will pay for out-of-warranty repairs in special cases. An appeal to the regional rep couldn't hurt. So that is what I did.
I was delighted that NISSAN stepped up and paid half the tab for fixing the whine as indicated in the TSB! Now, I am whine free.
I believe that NISSAN chose to help me out for two reasons. One: There was only 38k miles on the car, so only the 5 year time limitation on the warranty had expired. Two: I think this was most important. One of the things that NISSAN Consumer Affairs wanted to know for this appeal was how many NISSAN vehicles I have owned. This is my fourth NISSAN. Over the last decade, I had purchased new Pathfinder, new Quest and new Armada vehicles from local dealers. I had all my major service done at the dealer (I do the simple maintenance myself). So even though this Maxima was second-hand and out of warranty, NISSAN felt it was important to keep me happy.
So if you can show you are faithful to NISSAN, they might offer to help you out.

A Nissan Maxima Short Story.
twentyeggs has a slight whine in his car. But for some odd reason, it ONLY happens when he is in tiptronic and in first gear only.... while in tiptronic. Also, he can not hear it when his windows are up or if his radio is on and his windows are down. As a result twentyeggs, is not bothered by it in the leeeast bit.
Then! one day, a man said "woah dude, is that think supercharged?" Twentyeggs was driving past him and didn't have time to react. So in a effort not to completely ignore the guy he gave him a thumbs up out the window. twentyeggs was pleased!!! It was as if the fallen angle of DECEPTION layed a new for twentyeggs and his maxima. why give the random folk a disappointing answer when they have hoped to see a blown 4 door that day?? eh? eh???
Then another day, he was rumbling around in a drive through with his cutout open, window down, beats-a-beating, one arm on the steer wheel one arm out the window thinking
**

my grocery getter is better than yours... the magnificent low savage gurgling bubbling growling noise the VQ makes with an open exhaust system FEEDS the spirited soul with a nutritious blend of testosterone and energy like that of a vat of fiery agitated lions and poisonous scorpions. when another man thought twentyeggs did..... a v8 swap with supercharger no less. At this incredibly outrageous possibility, he could not lie to the random stranger and then live with himself. he told him "no, it's just a v6 with a cutout and a few boltons," with a look of disappointment wishing he did have a blown v8 under the hood. BUT THEN!! the random drive through vehicle Samaritan replied but saying, "well, still that's badass, good work" twentyeggs was pleased!! and continued the drive through ride thinking

That's good to hear that Nissan helped you out.
However your problem made me think quadrice........so it's not the mileage but age of the car caused timing chain noise......hmmm nice played by nissan to fvck their loyal customers.
