Under dashboard as in the footwells? I bought these strip lights:

from this thread http://forums.maxima.org/6th-generat...8022-leds.html and installed them. They're plug-n-play and have an adhesive back. I plugged them in, stuck them up on the bottom of the dash and was done in less than 10 minutes. And they're really bright!

those "plug-n-play" end are less than $1 online or some stores, just splice and insert.

when you pop out the bulb (which is a pita for the passenger side) simply insert the strip with the end. if it doesn't work, remove and switch it.
why do you want a switch? if you really want one, look up relays.

$80 should include quality strips and a perfectly clean install.

Just splice into a power source and wire up a switch wherever the heck you want it. Not hard and the switch will cost you $10 at MOST.
