Super loud squeel at startup

Recently, the car squeels for about 30 seconds to a minute on occation when I start up to leave work. Im in an underground parking garage and the sound is so loud people cover their ears, I got out to listen and the squeel is so unbearable it actually causes pain to my ears if I get close to the engine area. I know its got to go to be looked at....im being told its eithe bearings on the water pump or a serpentine belt. You guys know what this costs or if someones had this happen and it was something else? If its more than $500 I think im ready to trade it in, 125k...never changed any belts.

Your belts cause it goes away, I had the same thing, the belts are dried out and overnight sitting for so long they get stiff, on start up your loosening them up and once loose the noise goes away, like 125 for new belts, how many miles you at

when i first got my car i changed the a/c belt and pulley because the belt looked all craked and the pulley was bent. i bought the oem pulley with a good aftermarket belt...took it to a mechanic. after install the car use to squeal really loud sometimes during startup......took it to a good mechanic, and the car has never made any other squeals at startup. the guy retentioned the pulleys the right way.

got the same problem...mine squeels for about 5-10seconds on cold starts, sometimes longer if it's raining/moist out

it's the serpentine belts in my case, i gotta tighten it up a lil' and probably clean the gunk/dirt on the pulleys(try to stay away from belt spray)

if i was you, i'd take it off and check it for cracks and replace if needed. IIRC belts are ~$20 at autozone. Goodyear gatorbacks have a lot better reviews than random cheap autozone brands which is what i bought -__-.

a good way to prevent this is to grab a can of belt conditioner and spray it every year or so

yup, change your belts, and be sure they are tight enough...loose belts= loud squeal.

Yea it's ur belt, there is 2 belt in our max, power steering and a bigger one that goes over ur alternator, ac, etc, after changing those it will be fixed, I brought a gaterback belt, pretty tough belt and brought it to Strauss to fix I paid somewhere around 150, I did hear a squeal one time from car but Thad only cause WD 40 fell on it when I sprayed some too close to it, those belts accord to the manuals of our car, are suppose to be tight, clean and dry, if u replace ur belt and still hear a squeal then check ur pulley out? It could be wobbly or loose.

2007 Maxima SE Serpentine belt spec

Hi: I have replaced my old belt, the one for the A/C, alt and Water pump.
The spec I have is .26"deflection between the crank pulley and A/C with
a 22 lb force.
I set it to that and used a small hand scale to apply the correct force.
It unfortunately is squeaking.
I checked the deflection after driving a bit, and it is the same, .26".
I tried some belt dressing, with no improvement.

I did find another chart for deflection, but it is for a 4th generation Maxima, and as the 2007 is a 6th generation, I am not sure if it is valid.
It is .146" for a new belt.

Is that the correct spec???

Thanks

Doug
