For some reason I think there might be a problem with my wifes 2008 MAXIMA SE.

I drive the car once in awhile but she drives the car 96% of the time and she is a respectful driver and does not punch the gas pedal constantly.

But my MPG meters constantly shows 13.4 MPG or 14.6 MPG.

I got the car in MAY 2011 with about 18,000 miles. Should I do some type of tune up or bring it in for service and tell them the MPG is really low ?

I feel like she is constantly gassing the car up like once a week and she only drives about 8 miles to work one way.

I don't know if its me or the CVT but acceleration is not there. The car feels slow when I punch it.

it is easy to get 13-15mpg in a maxima. It is also easy to get 30+mpg highway. it all depends on how you drive. are you trying to get better mpg? or just driving normal and that is what you get?

also have you reset your mpg meter?

13-14.6 mpg is the average. I reset the mpg meter on the radio and reset trip B on the odometer and i took a slow cruise home and it only showed 14.6 mpg. There is something not right i think.

Going by the numbers the car gives is useless. They're never accurate, usually not even close. If you're doing a lot of city driving, it reads out very low. If you're doing a lot of highway driving, it reads out very high.

Fill the tank, reset the trip odometer to zero, drive the car until it needs filled up again. Divide the number of miles you drove by the number of gallons you put in and come back to us with that number.

yeah i agree. the computer is not always right. if you are still getting those numbers then i would get it checked out. your maxima should consistently be above 20mpg if your trying to conserve.

Ill do that. I figured that the gauge is off 1-2mpg give or take but it still would seem very low.

i was getting 18 mpg before when i was driving like a grandma. Now over 33k miles i am getting 16.4. Partly due to my heavy foot.

It's hard not to go WOT after every stoplight with the NWP Spacers, huh?

In all our testing, we were able to barely notice a slight increase in gas mileage with the Spacers. But since it was less than a 1mpg increase, it was too small to mention in our test results.

The wife drives our 08 and I have kept records since day one, milage versus gallons purchased. Total miles 52353, average MPG: 22.7. Low MPG:16.2 (must of been when I drove it for a week!) High:33.8 (only once and never near that again!).

You realize by EPA rating the 2007-2008 maxima gets 19mpg city and 25mpg highway. No idea how much of the short trip to work is stop and go but if it is expect the mileage to be lower than the EPA rating. How much does the car idle cooling/heating the interior, drive thru's, etc...will have a drastic effect on the fuel mileage.
Fuel mileage varies widely in my 2007. In the city i average 15-16mpg driving normally. But i can get 18-21mpg in the city. Highway mileage is between 22-30mpg depending on the speed and driving habits. Seems like the best fuel efficiency is around 45mph.

If you want to get the best mpg that you can, there are a few things.

• Clean air filter
• Plan stops at red lights so that the wheels are still moving when the light turns green or the person in front of you takes off.
• Always take off easy and keep the rpm as low as you can. Around 1200rpm.
• Ease off the gas a little bit as you pick up speed and maintain 1200rpm as long as you can. Sometimes the car will accelerate slightly quicker too.
• You have to drive like a great grandma/pa.

Or you can get up to 70mph down hill and throw it in neutral.

Since I am constantly at WOT, my Maxima gets a pretty decent gallons per mile.

I'm going in for my first oil change since I bought the car. Ill ask the dealer to look into why does the car show such LOW MPG. Ill keep you updated, the car is warrantied until 2016 so I can bust ***** until than lol.

17 city and 19 highway before the Intake, Y-pipe, cat back and NWP spacers. Now 19.5 city and 22.5 highway.

If you ask me I'd say nothing's wrong with your car. I drive about only 10-15 miles in the city some four or five times in the week, and that's what I get 13-14mpg. Even the driving is so much punctuated by stop-and-go. I don't do much highway travelling either, and perhaps the farthest I've gone is 150 miles (lol). On such occasions I get 20mpg, and then the so-called highway is not smooth because of bad state of the roads in my side of the globe. My point is, the car is not optimally used to get the AVERAGE mpg as advertised. I guess since my car does not have the opportunity to express itself fully, it "forces" itself to work and so drinks extra gas for that. For the avoidance of doubt, I do the regular maintenance, have good air filters (hardly dirty anyway since I'm less on the road), and to the best of my knowledge no air leaks. My idle rmp is a silent and steady 800.

I got 28 mpg this week on my 04 6 speed. And yes i have gotten 15-18 mpg before. How u drive helps alot

Ill have to calculate the mpg manually because I just cant believe the city/highway mpg is so low.

I get 26 mpg in my 97, which is ridiculous considering the numbers you guys get. I drive a pretty even mix of highway and city. I know I have 0.5 less liters, but the car is also 14 years old. You think there would have been some advancements made in efficiency made in that time. It's half my lifespan for Christ's sake.

I calculate these figures by filling my tank, driving, then filling again.

I get 24.2 at about 70% city and 30% highway

I got a 06 Maxima and I get about 19mpg city. Not so great but I love my maxima so dont care.

U can use the fuely function on the site to log. Input mileage, driving conditions, and it will monitor and display current and average mileage.

I set around 18 mpg if I drive like an idiot, sometimes worse, best is about 23. Torque converter brought my mileage down a bit, but still acceptable. I get about 340mp fillup maximum

04 Maxima 6-speed with 108k miles and I average 22 mpg with an even mix of Highway and City driving. I also get up to 80mph on the highway every day as well.

I used to get 24, i cant believe some of these numbers here, you guys must drive like maniacs! I get 18 in the SS!

my 2004 automatic 3.5 maxima gives me 375 miles to a full tank in the city. that's with a 20 gallon tank so I guess im getting 18/19 MPG

Just 1Question. Will a heavier oil make a difference in your gas mileage?? I also imagine the some people are running synthetics. Does a heavier viscosity make your engine work harder. I have also read that different tires will produce different MPG.
