(04-06) (07-08) comparison,differences,similarities

Do you guys believe 07 and 08's are better than 04 thru 06 or vice versa. Is the Transmission with the CVT more reliable than the transmission's equipped in 04 thru 06 . Also the interior/exterior changes made to the 07-08 years do you think they're better or worse and why would Nissan cut the HP down to 255, rather than add the 270 used in the Altima to the Maxima for 07-08 and place the 255 in the Altima?

You ask many questions. If I were you I would go with your gut feeling. From what I hear the CVT transmission is solid, but you won't get the changing gear feeling. Also many 04-06 posters here change their front and back ends to look like an 07-08. good Luck.

I love my 06 but the 07 and 08's been catching my eye lately I'll take a loaded 08 SL over the new 09-12.

07-08 look better inside and out. They have different front and rear bumpers, also the spedo and center console is different. CVT you either love it or hate it, I would prefer a 6sp but I have no complains about the CVT either

Had an 06, so Im partial to it but the 6 and 6.5 are some of the best looking cars, words can not describe the looks of these 6th Gens on these forums

If your buying one, test drive and make sure it was taken care of

Damn, I was thinking this was going to be a useful thread, compiling legitimate differences between the vehicles...

Who wants a 04-06 when you can have a 07-08??? The old transmissions 04-06 just sucked and you were lucky if you got a Max that had a solid working transmission. You don't want to have to worry about the stress of buying a new transmission. Just go with 07-08. You will be a happy camper

Have an 04 and have had 0 issues with my tranny. I also have had limited issues (for the exception of the heat shield and a few daytime running lights going out) if you EVEN call those issues.

Solid car, LOVE the 5 spd - drove the CVT and absolutely hate how you don't feel the shift points/gears . Besides that, love both 6 and 6.5 gens and I don't think I could get another car unless this one blew up

+1 to what TheMacedonian said. I have an 04 SE with the shiftable 5A/T. In 2008 I rented an 08' Max on a business trip. I very much liked the upgraded front & rear bumpers...the redesigned center console is very slick. The only negatives about the car, in my opinion, were the CVT (no exhilaration when shifting like in the 04-06 Max ---boring) and the cloth seats are horrible.

The car seems only mildly fast on "spirited driving." Whereas the 04-06 are fast in both auto mode and shiftable mode, feels like a 5 spd manual...where you can control your launch / highway passing dynamic. (BTW the 04 really needs traction control)

I should add that my Max has been driven many miles on the Cali Interstates 5 & 15. Its had plenty of opportunity to exhibit the glory of terrific "get up & go" power.

I really loved the shiftable A/T up in the San Jacinto mountains were the Palm Springs aerial tram is located. There was no stressing the transmission goin uphill nor brake burning coming back down.

If I had my choice, I'd take an 08' Max with the engine/tranny of my 04 SE (plus my custom Katskinz leather seats).

I have the best of both worlds. 06 with 07-08 front and rear bumpers, hood, headlights, fogs and grill and then I have the 6spd manual. Can't ask for more.

It seems that all agree the 07 to 08 are better, but would and could have been even greater had Nissan not switched over to the new CVT, I think the 07 Maxima would have been an even better car had nissan added the 270hp in the 07-08 Maxima instead of 255. To me that set the car backwards instead of forwards using 255 just as they did for 2002 2003.

Hey Raz76,

I understand the hood, bumpers, and headlights must be packaged when doing the 06' to 07' front end retro fit. Did you have to modify any of the mounting points for the hood or headlights, or do they bolt on using existing locations for the 06' OEM stuff? Also, how much did the front end change cost you, minus any paintwork?

Everything is bolt on. 110 for the bumper, 510 for the hood, 550 for the HID heads( almost new), 75 for the grill, 140 for the fogs.

In 2007, the EPA changed the formula used to calculate HP. That's why there was a HP decrease from 265 to 255. I don't think anything was done to the engine.

Or buy the bumper that EZ Concepts makes that fits the 04-06 but gives the look of the 6.5 gen with the lower fogs. I thinks it's a little over $400.

Yeah but the 07-08 conversion is much nicer. I mainly did it because I hated the bumper and the ugly **** headlights on the 04-06s.

I have an 07 Max. At 56K the CVT went out. The Timing Chains and guides had to be replaced. And Two Motor mounts broke. (@ the same time)

Whatever you go with, fork over for the Extended Warranty. The only one worthwhile is: Security Plus - Gold Preferred.

Though the CVT issue I experienced isn't common, the timing chains and motor mounts happen all the time. I must note than once the chains are replaced with the newer version, it won't be an issue thereafter.

S3AN, At 56k miles shouldn't most of that have been covered under the powertrain warranty? and were you doing some serious hard driving on the car? Didn't i read here or somewhere we are now covered up to 120k miles for cvt?

Yuo sound like my fagot brother in law. He thinks that if a car has four tail pipesits so much better than a car with two. Silly fagot.

Your "fagot" brother in law is exactly right. The 07-08 Maxima looks like dog poop with only two pipes. I think it actually look's off. You need to put the stock 07-08 exhaust tips if you want that max's a$$ looking pretty okay? silly deefag lol

quick question, how does the 04-06 look with just the 07/08 hood bumper and grill ?
meaning doing the conversion without swapping the headlights ?

me too...its the best!

Still debating on whether i should replace the rocker mouldings as well (they are different but barely noticeable). I see in your sig that you haven't replaced yours either.

I love my 07

I had a 04 for about 3 years, and yes i liked it a lot. Then i rolled it three times. I went out and bought a fully loaded 07. And i LOVE this car. It just is so much cleaner looking, both on the exterior and interior. Yes the CVT does take a minute to get used to , I love it now.

I haven't had any problems with either cars, other than the fact that the 04 is in the car graveyard.

but i think the 07 would have to be better right, i mean it wasn't a total redesign, just an upgraded version right??

I didn't because I will eventually go with aftermarket skirts, no point.

I feel you.

Does anyone know if the the xenon projectors are the same between the 6 & 6.5's? I'm getting a good deal on some 05 projectors and wanted to know if they would work in 6.5 gen housings. Getting tired of my halogens.
