Engine rattle...

Hello.
So i recently purchased a trashed 6 gen, so i need input on a possible problem / if current engine can be saved.

Basically, the car has this LOUD rattle coming from the timing chain area. Furthermore, the oil light is on, even though there is plenty of oil and that there is a SES code for P0174 bank 2 too lean.

Here is the video of the car running:
http://youtu.be/9n7M_voP-wE

It rattles really loud when cold, but when the vehicle warms up, the rattle somewhat gets quieter, but still very noticeable.
I think its the tensioners that are completely worn out... What do you guys think? The noise seems to come from the timing chain area in the back of the engine near the firewall.

Thanks.

Never heard about that problem here before. Did you do a search for it?

Search function kind of broken. So far, i think that the car was starved for oil and its somewhat dirty, so im going to check the oil pan for any metal. If no metal, then replace the oil filter and give it some clean oil along with some seafoam to clean the crap and see if the noise is still this loud. Im pretty sure this car has the famous failing tensioners problem.

If metal found in oil pan, i wont hesitate and do a swap.

I'll bet it's the chains and 3 tensioners. I wouldn't worry about the lifters as I believe they at hydrolic. Just my 2 cents. Have you tried a thicker oil like 10/30

Long story short the oil pump died in that engine and i found metal shavings on the bottom of the oil pan. Swap time.

The oil pump dieing would not cause the shavings. The shaving caused your oil pump failure. Tear down the engine. How many miles on the engine.

That's what I was thinking.

81K
Actually im not going to tear it down simply because its not worth the trouble when i found a nice low mileage 07 motor (41K) for 900.

I'm simply going to swap the entire thing and when i pull out the old engine, il tear it down when i have spare time to see what kind of damage occurred and part out some of the stuff that was not killed to get some money back.

81k, wow she is a young engine. Probably not well cared for. I'm guessing tmu. Total miles unknown. I hear the odometers are easy to tamper with.

Previous owner doesn't deserve this car. Good thing you took it away from them.
