Has anyone gutted their precats? If so, does the car sound louder? How did you eliminate the CEL?

Oh Damn...I gutted mine before and didn't get the CEL...but there is plenty of threads on this topic that you can search on, check the within the 1st 5 pages...GOOD LUCK...

I think your in the wrong section unless you got a 04 and not a 01.

 

I also have a 04. In process of swapping the engine. I wanted the 6th gen owners to pinch on this subject a bit.

 

it does sound a little louder and you ofcourse do gain a little power ... i actually had gutted pre cats too and didn't get a CEL but then again i've seen some people get them so idk and if youre going through the trouble of getting the precats off on a 6th gen max (which isn't easy) and don't care about the CEL then i'd get some headers alone with it lol

 

Problem is that im having a very hard time finding headers in the first place, within a reasonable price range.
