Intake manifold...

There seems to be a distinct difference between a 04-06 and 07-08 intake manifolds for the maximas.

Is there a difference in terms of performance?

The 04-06 come with the EGR, while the 07-08. Performance wise I think there the same thou.

I know the the 6.5 gens (07-08) DO NOT have an EGR valve in the intake manifold. I am not sure where the hell our EGR valve is. As per Performance i cannot comment, however, if I recall you earlier threads, you are swapping out an engine for a 6th gen 04-06, correct?

Not sure how that 6.5 manifold will work wiht what you currently have but hopefully someone can chime in. Also, I am pretty sure you can use the 6.5 engine and then just swap the manifolds.

Good luck

I have the 04 though but the motor is from a 07, i can use the 07 manifold or il run into problems?

That's the plan, id rather use the 07 manifold as the original engine had obvious oil consumption problems because the old manifold has oil spattered everywhere on the inside

I guess my only concern is do you NOT need the EGR if you are swapping in the whole damn engine? sounds plausable. I assume you are taking out the whole engine so the egr will be coming out with that engine. I think i need to read up on what the EGR does, lol. You know you should sign up (if not already) to www.my6thgen.org there is a member on there nizomo1, whom has done extensive work on the 6th gen engines. He is here as well but I dont see him post up as much.

use the 07 motor with the 04 manifold. without the egr connected you will have a check engine light

So the 6.5 is the 07and 08?

Correct the first introduction of the CVT tranny to the maxima

Performance wise, all Maxima VQ35 from 02-08 are the same. Likes cxj said before me, Swap your intake manifold and exhaust manifolds and you will have a codeless swap.

Thanks a lot guys for the great responses.

On another note, can i use throttle body cleaner to clean out my intake manifold? Seriously, the old one from the original engine is quite layered in oil its not even funny.

Well, there are debated threads on TB cleaning, some say if you touch the valve everything will be fudged up, Some say, that theory is an old wives tale. Check the 5th gen section, I saw a thread on TB cleaning. let me see if I can find it. BRB

Try this, do a search when you get a chance

He's talking about cleaning the intake manifold itself. Not the TB.

Yes you can use TB cleaner on the intake manifold if you want. I've used standard partake cleaner and brake cleaner also. There is nothing on/in the intake manifold you can damage with chemicals unless its harsh enough to eat away at aluminum.

Totally misread that, Sorry OP. I agree with Essential1

Thanks.
Also in your previous post you said that id need to swap the exhaust manifold as well because they're different between the 6th and 6.5 gen. so far from looking at them, (well the old engine is still in the vehicle as im busy swapping the timing components) the exhaust manifolds look pretty much identical...

As for TB, id rather not touch it until i get the car running code less.

Does the rear exhaust manifold have an egr port? If not, you have to swap it to keep your egr and not have a check engine light. If it does have one in the same spot as your original one then you don't have too. I'm just assuming it doesn't because it was stated that the 6.5 gen doesn't have egr. I've honestly never seen a 6.5 gen rear exhaust manifold in person so I can't say for sure.

the 04-06 and 07-08 manifold are different slightly.

the 04-06 has an egr fitting on the right side of the manifold. looks like a tube going from it into the lower part of the motor for layman terms.

07-08 does not have the opening

use the 04-06 manifold onto the 07 motor if not you will not be able to connect the egr valve and you will have codes

Use brake cleaner to get gunk out of your intake manifold, just pull everything off of it before you do. If you're really concerned about performance, you can polish the inside of the runners on your manifold, but personally I doubt the .00000000005 hp gain is worth doing this on an N/A motor.

Use a rag and some 91% concentration rubbing alcohol to clean the intake ports on your head if those are gunked up. Guys that run E85 on boosted motors have to do this every-so-often to clean up all the vapor breakdown.

Still thinking about that exaust manifold. Will look at the EGR port on the exhaust manifold. Another thing is that i think my cats are failing apart. If that the case, i might just slap on some VQ35 eBay headers for altima, weld the EGR port on them and buy some downstream 350z o2 sensors with spacers and keep the original muffler.

I'm not buying new cats, nuh uh.
