Advice on changing PCV valve?
Advice on changing PCV valve?
I never did any kind of servicing what so ever on my car for the 4 years i've had it and i'm looking to get on that before it cost me money.
I just bought a pcv valve for my 04 maxima but I don't have a clue about my engine. I'm not gonna take it to a mechanic to have them charge me a 1hr labour for something that looks so simple.
The thing is I have no idea where it is
. If there's a thread of pics please let me know. I'm sure it's probably a simple job and i'm not a novice when it comes to working on my own car. Thanks

im not sure of its exact location but I would suggest start looking on the rear valve cover its where ive seen em on 4th and 5th gen maximas...good luck and yea its definitely a simple replacement no need for a mechanic
If your standing in front of the car, its towards the rear right side/rear passenger side of the car, a black hose is going right onto it, this should help you out

The PCV valve is on the Valve cover. Right on the top. A hose is attached to it. You need to remove the hose clamp and pull the hose off, once you get the hose off you can remove the pcv and replace with a new one.

If you can't find it with the image provided, I'd seriously recommend you take it to a professional before you start pulling random hoses and cause yourself more problems.

That's a major set back. Oh well i'll do that along with the spark plugs when I install the spacer seeing that most of the stuff will be off anyways. Every other car I changed the pcv valves on it was in plain view. Nissan made it hard so that you bring it back to them. LOL. I can't really do all that now because we're in the -0 degrees
I'll attepmt to change it without removing the IM
Has anyone ever change their PCV valve on the 6thgen maximas? I just want to know if it can be changed in less than an hour without taking off the I'm or other time comsuming components. If it was warmer I'd get in there but my fingers will freeze off before I get to it.
6th gen = 5.5 gen, same set-up. Removing the IM shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. Takes me less since I have removed everything that gets in my way (VIAS).
It can be done with out removing it, but it is tight and you'll need to remove other items (i.e. strut bar, plastic crap/coverings, etc).

I wouldn't say same set-up, I'd say similar. There's a pic above, I don't think it's a 6thgen. It looks more like a 5thgen and I'n mine I can't fit my hands anywhere in the back there.
I'll try removing the strut tower bar and see if I can fit my hands. I'll let you all know

Check out this thread for a little more info and tips on the PCV replacement. Apparently there are some differences in the 5th gen and 6th gen replacement procedures. Seems like it's easiest to do it with the manifold off, but people have done it without removing the manifold.

Man, I changed my plugs last year and completely forgot about the PCV. Well, I guess I'll be waiting a few months until things warm up before I take that UIM off again. Guess I can use this as an excuse to install the spacer kit

In fact, that cardomain pic is from a 5.5 gen.

Did you change the pcv valve on the 6thgen with the I'm on or off? And I had a mind that was the 5thgen pic. That looks way more roomy compared to mine
I did mine a few months back. Took off the cowl cover and metal shroud. Not knowing exactly how it came apart, took about 1.5 hours from start to finish. Knowing what I know now, would be done in less then an hour to do it again...
Seriously though, practice makes perfect.
