Nissan Maxima 2005 running on 5 Cylinders

Hey guys, im new to this forum. My car right now is running on 5 cylinders i took it to nissan dealer and they told me that it would be 365$ to just check whats wrong with it. He told me it can be as cheap as a spark plug or it can be some type of injector which can run up to an extra 400$. I have a feeling theyre trying to rip me off.. Because if its not a bad spark plug i will have to pay around 800$ total. What would you guys recomend me to do? What else can be the issue if its not the spark plugs. Would it be cheaper if i take it to a local mechaninc? THANKS!

90% of the time its a coil or a spark plug. Whats the mileage?

Go to an auto part store and get yourself an OBD2 reader (round $100) and you'll be able to diagnose it yourself, this handy tool will also help you lots in the future if you don't want to take it to the dealer every time.

Finding a local mechanic is the best thing I have ever done. Ask around and find a reliable one. I will only visit a dealer again if I cannot find a part cheaper elsewhere.

You can rent an obdII reader from autozone. You put down a deposit 80 bucks I think. Use it and get your money back. If its a sparkplug or coil pray its one on the front part. In that case it will be a snap. Tell one of the autozone guys you'll give them 100bucks to do it for you. I don't any will one who knows their way around a car will pass it up. It's a non nonsense job.

Unless its someting no one else can figure out i usually diagnose myself or have a cheap mom and pop do it. Then i get parts from mynissanparts and either change myself or have the mom and pop do it. Dealers are for people with warranty.

Car looks good do you have a build thread ???? OP just go out and buy a spark plug and put it in, thats what I would try first .

From: Florida /Wade County !
Most Advance/Autozone down here in Florida check for free with a OBD scanner.

get the codes and report back or search the web for the codes ( example P3092)

you will find a better result , more than likely a coil pack has gone bad.
