CVT Transmission problem?

I just bought a used 2007 Maxima SE with 67K kms or approx 107K miles.
Today as I was driving, I had problems with it upshifting. When I pressed the gas at about 45mile/hr, it would not respond; the tach would show reving but the speed wouldn't increase. After I depressed the gas and reapplied the gas, it would then upshift. Is that a tranny issue?
Good thing it still has a powertrain warranty on it from Nissan until the end of 2012.

Nissan increased the warranty period on the cvt from six to ten years a while back when they increased the mileage to 120k miles. 2017 would be the year it expires but your going to hit 120k miles way before then. I have a 2007 with 60k miles and like to hear the CAI. The CVT has not given me any issues that have stranded me yet. Unless you count the car feels like a five speed when trying to maintain a speed under 25mph. Or the slight acceleration at about 25mph when braking lightly to come to a stop. Almost rear ended a few people. It didn't do it when i first got the car but i noticed it four years ago and it has not broke yet. I gave up after 10 trips to two different dealerships that said there was nothing wrong. Drive it until it breaks.

The maintenance schedule to change the CVT fluid is 30k/60k miles depending on which maintenance schedule you go by. I'm due to replace the CVT fluid again and its a little more costly than a regular automatic to change the fluid but you have to keep up on the maintenance in order for the warranty to he honored. I plan on doing it myself this time and keeping the receipts for the materials used as proof.

If you are having issues with it upshifting, then take it in to the dealership. I was having the same issue, but when I was on the hiway driving about 70 the rpms were screaming at 4500 rpm. There were no warning lights on the dash. So when I got to the house, I pulled out my scanner and pulled the code P0744. I made an appointment that night with the dealership for service. So after dropping it off, I get a call a few hours later stating that they have ordered me a new tranny that will be covered under warranty, now that is a true blessing. I bought this 08 Maxima on 15 Jan 12 and it has right at 50,9xx miles on her. Thankfully Nissan did notice there was a problem, and have extended their warranty on the CVT transmission. I guess I am one of the lucky ones.

Take it to the dealer, get your money back and buy another car. These 6thgen tranny issues are never ending.

While you are correct, the 6th gen trannys are bad very bad indeed. The 6.5gen 07-08 dont suffer the same fate and have not had the issues of th 04-06.

first off, 67k kms is about 41k miles. that makes your car a low mileage car. Sounds like this might be your first cvt and you are expecting it to "shift" gears when in fact there are no "shifting" of gears in this transmission. From what you are describing, the cvt is doing what it is supposed to do. Unlike conventional trannies that down shift when you get on the gas, the cvt lets the engine rpm climb but you will not feel any shifting because it has no conventional gears to shift down or up to.

does your car have a check engine light on?

is the fluid light green in color?
