4th gen rims on 6th gen maxima.

Hello, just traded my 1996 maxima SE with 350,000kms in for a 2008 Maxima SE. Just wondering if my old rims would fit, I purchased brand new winter tires for my '96 and I was wondering if they would fit on my new 2008 Max.

Thanks!

Cameron

I don't think the wheels will clear the brakes.

Why not try it out? It seems like you already have the wheels, so there is nothing to lose.

The blades? I don't think they will clear the calipers either. They are VERY close to the 96 calipers. Try it out and if you really want them get some spacers. Not sure how much spacer the 6th gen studs can handle but its an option

Nothing smaller than a 17" will clear the calipers.

^..... Unless you shave your caliper. But question. Why would you want to put 16" rims on such a big car? That will look stupid. The wheel gap will be that of a 4X4

the rear will clear but the front won't ... if you shave your caliper down you can fit a 16" like jason said and to fit a 15 you'd have to downgrade on calipers which would be pointless unless you plan on drag racing (to fit slicks on)

dpends where it doesnt clear, if it doesnt clear the top part of the wheel (where barrel meets caliper) you will have to shave caliper. if it doesnt clear where the caliper meets the spokes/rear face of wheel, you might be able to put washers on the studs to have it clear the caliper and may not need to shave the caliper

To update...
The 96 Maxima rims aren't even close to clearing the front calipers. However I've found a decent set of winters from a 2001 Max with 17s Clock the link below and let me know if these will fit before I purchase them.

I priced out new 18in winter tires for my max and the prices are ridiculous for winters.

Thanks!

Those look like AE wheels. It's a shame someone used those for winter wheels...

Don't be suckered in by the tires man. Just like every other thing tire do have date codes and though in the pic it may look like it was only driven a short period of time I'm sure it wasn't. There are so many shops that sells brand new tires that would give you the piece of mind knowing from that day you got about 5-6 years to go. Nissan rims can also be found on kijiji for $200-300, I have winter tires with no wear for over 3 years now and just bought a set of 17" 350Z rims for $180.

My point is not because someone told you a tire have so my km on it you should believe it. The average person don't know how to check the manufature date so they list it according to the wear condition. Like myself who have several sets of wheels and I install my winter tires as late as possible and take them off as early as possible saving it from the higher temperature which is one of the main reason winter tires don't last.
