LED Daytime Headlight Mod (Audi-style)

Hello all,

I have searched the forums (and web) pretty thoroughly, and I am having a hard time finding a lot of info/pics on this mod for 6th gen Maximas. I think it would look fantastic. Halos are obviously amazing, but I find them pricey for what they are.

Anyone have anything to offer up? I have seen a lot of the posts on other gen Maximas, but I don't find those as helpful in my decision-making, confidence to install myself, etc.

Just to be clear, I'm talking about LED strips within/on the headlight, not below

Here is what mine looks like

This is what I did to mine after getting rid of all the haze and painting the housings black. I also did a strip of amber for the turn signals that looks pretty good at night time. Very freaking hard to capture on a phone though when they are blinking.

jperez,

Thanks for the reply- those look good. Did you use a heat gun/oven to open them up? I guess this is the process that makes me nervous

06BlckMax,

Thanks for posting. If I do this mod, I will probably do the same thing you did on the headlights with the horizontal strip on the bottom. May I ask why you removed them?

The LED strip started to turn brown and a couple of the LEDs went out

how did you get your lenses cleaned up and painted? Mine look like hell and I've tried all sorts of sanding kits and they all get fogged over

I did the oven process, I wasn't careful putting them back together thought and need to reseal the left side. It has condensation on really humid days here in Dallas.

I went to get my windows tinted and the tint shop guy had an 08, he said he lights were worse then mine and told me how he did. Then asked if I'd like his shop to do the work for 80.00.

The process was sanding then wet sanding I did all the way up to 3000 wet. After that I polished the lens and clear coated with about 6 coats on each light. I have only had them done for about 4 months now but clear headlights make the car look so much newer and cleaner I should have done it when I first got the car. This was an all day venture so set some time aside, I tend to rush painting and always screw it up with a run or trash in the fresh paint. So take your time and it will come out great.
