Any comments on 2004 Maxima SE

Looking to buy a new car. Have a 2001 Maxima SE 20th anniversary edition. Just time for a change. Perfer the 5th gen Max, can't really find one i really want (want a 6 speed) but just came across a 04 with 99000 km ( 60000 miles ) 6 Speed tranny. The dealer is replacing the tranny with a 1 year warranty offered. Price he is selling $6900. Like i said perfer the 5th gen, but what should i look for in the 6th gen? Saw the car, was on a lift, no tranny. Pretty clean. What do you say people?

Sounds like a good deal is it the top model? Check for timing chain guide noise before you buy it though. Be there on a cold start and drive it around for a good 20-30 mins. Check for noise around the 2k rpm range while driving.

Its the SE model. Engine/Car has 60000 miles (99000 km). I know abt the timing chain guides, motor mounts etc etc, just want to know if I'm better off with a 5th gen or the 6th gen

If you already know about all of the 6th gen issues, then there's not much more that anyone can advise you. You're asking in the 6th gen forum, people will most likely tell you to get the 6th gen. It comes down to your personal preference, pick one.

Couldn't have worded it better than "Crime" above me. I always say get the more modern one. If you can afford the maintenance, get the 6th. If you would like to conserve a little more, get the 5th (even though the 5th can run some serious repair bills also). Regardless, both are beautiful cars. Just go out and get the best deal and vehicle possible. They're out there.

You know there have been about 8 people this last year who have posted identical threads? They are brand new, want to buy a maxima, and ask the "should i buy it? question."

If you are new to forums than you get a pass. We all have to learn some way most of us learn by reading the rules. There is a rule you must search for your problems or questions before you post. If you know about this stuff than shame on you.

As for should you get a 6th gen? short answer yes, its a better car that others in the 04-06 $7-9k range. Will you have problems with it? who knows, i haven't had a single problem with mine, but other have spent more money fixing their cars than they paid for it.

you can answer your own questions by looking though the forum. You won't have to go very far before you see another one asking your questions.

If you posted because you really just wanna say "hi and whats up i may be a new member," than welcome. I hope to see you get yourself the car we all love enough to talk about online.

sontoulos Back in the high school days the early 2000s we owned an 2002SE and I felt the same way about that car back then as you do now. It felt like the best Maxima on earth at the time. Then the 2004 to 2008 years came out and we have about 3 of them an 04 and two 06s. Get the 04 if he's willing to replace the tranny because thats the backbone of trouble for the 04 thru 06 Maxima. When that transmission is running The car is solid. You'll enjoy the car alot its with every penny especially the way it rides.
