Disconnect the battery first and wait at least 20 minutes before you start. There are air bags in the seats. Should be a pretty cut and dry procedure. Remove the four nuts on the seat rails, disconnect any wires, then remove the seat. The trim panels just pull off. Start from the front and work your way back on the door sill plate. If you have to remove the center console, there are two hidden screws accessible from the back seat that are located near where the front seat belts anchor down. The rest should be obvious.

I don't know how many times I've posted this recently, the FSM's should be stickied lol. Look on page EI-40.

Our of curiosity, is your rust centered around either of the front door jambs, or somewhere else? Do you know the root cause of the rust?
I have rust, only on the front passenger side, near where the front door jamb is. I am now suspecting that it has to do with the sunroof drainage system, which dumps water in that location, and is perhaps clogged, causing pooling, and in turn rust.

Yes, yes, and yes. Do NOT touch anything that has to do with the airbags until you've disconnected the battery and given enough time for capacitors to discharge. You want the car to have absolutely no power when you plug or unplug any airbag connectors. Actually, you should get in the habit of disconnecting the battery in general when you do electrical work, including anything that involves plugging and unplugging any connectors. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I see the picture, but don't know where it is relative to the car.
The answer that Porky gave in the other thread made me try to think this through about drainage.
Looking at the sunroof drain diagram in the FSM has me convinced that the problem is somehow related.

thanks for the reply.
So after i have removed the seat, can i simply plug the main battery back? will it affect other airbags still connected? or should all airbags need to be disabled in preference since one is disconnected?
the situation is that i need to remove the passenger seat by myself and then drive to the garage for the floor pan repair.

That is a good question. Worst case scenario is that the car detects a fault in the airbag system and the air bag light comes on and has to be reset with a consult2 or equivalent scanner. The rest of the air bags will function properly.

thanks guys.
actually to save some trouble i just left all plugs intact and only removed the seat bolts and move it backwards. Luckily there are plenty of space to work on the floor pan and cables are long enough without having to disconnect the plugs and taking out the seat
