I have a 2005 Maxima. Below the vent on the drivers side is a red push button. It lights with the security system, it also can be locked in the down position, but I have no idea what it does. Can anyone help me. I've googled it, I've looked in the user manual and there is nothing about it.

Sounds like a valet switch for an aftermarket alarm.

what you have there is an aftermarket thing, so you won't be able to find anything on it. As to what it is, there is no way to tell unless you get in there and follow the wire to the appropriate clues. If i were to take a wild guess, it has something to do with an alarm as Don said for valet parking. Or it could be a switch that engages a set of hidden rockets so you can drive upside down in a tunnel over traffic towards a murderous alien.
