Cyl 1 Misfire problems - 04 maxima 3.5l
I recently purchased this car. Drive it less than 24 hours and got the service engine light. Took it to a dealer they pulled the code and I had them replace all spark plugs an cyl 1 coil. Drove it for 600 miles and code came back on. After many trips back to dealer they couldn't identify the problem and so they cleaned the fuel injectors. Light came back on with same cyl 1 code. After taking it back this last time they said they got it to replicate while hooked up to the computer at the Nissan dealership. They told me it was a timing chain issue. Can this be so? The car sometimes feels like a very small hesitation when accelerating lightly. I just realized that premium fuel is recommended. So now pitting that in it. The car has 139k miles on it. Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks for reading!
Well, if they told me that after I had all that work done with them, then I would just look for a second opinion from another dealership, or a shop you trust. You need a diagnostic guy, not a computer, to tell you what your issue is.
Yeah I agree there. I called around and it seems there are a lot of different issues that could produce that code. I just have never heard of a computer that could diagnose a timing chain issue when hooked up, while driving. I spoke w someone who recommend sea foam for the engine to clean things up a bit just add it to the fuel. I heard that if the SES light is on it reduces engine performance in order to protect the engine?
Yeah, this is not an easy call. It sucks that it is in the rear bank because if it was in the front bank, then you could just switch them out to see if the problem moves to a different cylinder, which would tell you that it is a plug/coil issue. With it being cylinder #1, that is out of the question casue you have to remove a bunch of ****.
You can seafoam the engine. I have done that to my car, but I ran mine through a vacuum line, not the gas tank. Chernmax is the SME -
As for SES light reducing power output to protect the engine, I have no idea. Someone else will have to chim in here for that.
