knocking sound when ac is on

Hello, I am having an issue with a loud knocking sound coming from what seems to be my ac compressor. The sound is only present when the ac is on, which makes me think it is the compressor bearings or something. Anyone have any advice on this? I will try an upload a vid soon.

Start saving your $$$ for a new-to-you A/C compressor for this coming summer. If there is "play" between parts in your compressor to the point that stuff is floating around, then I would bet that you will need to replace that part in the near future.

I have been looking at some on ebay, but im not sure on the quality.

How hard is it to replace this? Is it something that can be done in you garage? Im not too familiar with A/C parts.

I don't do eBay for that kind of thing. Shop for used OEM.
And you can do this yourself, if you discharge the a/c at a shop first.
Make sure to allow yourself plenty of time, and have a second car handy just in case.
It's not a cake walk IMO, but can be done in your driveway; just make sure to discharge it at a shop and then, of course it would need recharged after you install.
Hope this helps!

I think I'm going to call around and get some price quotes today. I'm not too familiar with A/C components so i have a few questions. 1.) Is there any other components of the A/C system that need/should be replaced when replacing the compressor? 2.) what is a good ballpark estimate for such a repair? 3.) I may end up doing this myself, so does anyone know of a specific or general guide that i can use? I will also look at the service manual.
