2004 Maxima SE ABS issues

i have been experiencing issues with my abs where the abs kicks in on speeds 0-10mph and the vdc off, abs and slip lights are all on.I have taken the car to a nissan dealership where my cam shaft sensors, rear abs sensors where all changed but the problem still persists. The nissan dealership said that i should replace the abs actuator, i wanna know your opinions on whether i should disable the abs for now till i fix the actuator.I live in toronto ontario and we have alot of snow in the winter and i wanna know how safe is it to drive without abs in the winter. I understand that the abs is a secondary bvraking system to the regular brakes
I also want to know what switch to pull in order to disable the abs.

It might not be your actuator. Bunch of people (myself included) have battled this problem. I fixed mine by replacing both of the rear wheel hubs. ABS has been working properly for over a year now. The problem is that there is a design flaw which allows rust, corrosion, dust and dirt to build up inside of the hub which sends a bad reading to the ABS sensors. This causes the ABS to engage when it shouldn't. This problem is magnified in areas that see a lot of snow and road salt. Nissan released a TSB in which you can clean out the hub yourself, and grind out a notch that will allow water to drain properly. The TSB is here:

But for the record, I drove my car for about a year with the ABS disabled before I finally found some time to fix it once and for all. I disabled it by unplugging the front passenger side ABS sensor (easily disconnected via the harness near the coolant reservoir).

Just curious, when you unplug the ABS sensor does your speedometer still work?

Yep, speedo was unaffected which seems not to be the case when the ABS CONT fuse is pulled instead. Only thing that changed was that disconnecting the sensor disabled the ABS.

Thanks for the post. I was able to do this until I can get my car fixed.

For anyone that has done the TSB but it didn't solve the issue, what did you end up having to replace?
