Engine Swap on 2004 Maxima

I know there is probably a thread here somewhere about this...but I tried searching all day to find it... so here's my question:
What VQ35DEs will fit in the car right in without any modifications ?
i know the most obvious answer is probably 04-06 vq's directly out of other maximas... but so many other cars used that same motor, g35's, 350z's, Muranos, some Altimas, etc... Any help is much much appreciated.

Thank you all in advance.

You asked a question and answered it yourself. They all carry the same motor, they are just turned differently depending on FWD or RWD. You won't have any noticeable gains nor should you focus on it especially seeing that the power between them is due the the computer. Get the same motor and change the tensioners, guides, chains if you want, and water pump and you should be good.

if you don't know what you're doing, better bring the car to a specialist. If you're a bit mechanically inclined but want a straight forward swap, stick with the 04 model. Not also that the 2004 model maxima came with 3 different engine variations, an engine with a 4 speed auto, an engine with a 5 speed auto and an engine with a manual. Get the one that is a direct fit.

you cant use 350z or g35 engines as they're RWD. RWD and FWD blocks are different in terms of mounting points so you will need to get a FWD block.

Any engine from a murano, quest, 3.5 altima or maxima between 04-08 will fit fine. Consider looking for 06+ engine because a slight issue with the rings was solved in 06+ engines so they dont consume as much oil as 05-

Second, when you get an engine between those years, replace the timing tensioners before dropping the engine in. Its a cheap insurance fix and its easy to replace while the engine is out of the car, look up vq35 timing chain tensioner issues to get an idea of the problems scale.

Also, depending on what transmission you have. If you have 6 speed manual, an engine from 07-08 maxima will bolt up fine without having to swap the upper oil pan. If you have 5 speed auto, you will need to swap the upper oil pan for the transmission to bolt up (same applies to limited number of 4 speeds SL during 04 years)
