Bought this 2004 Maxima been a nightmare. When it does run It has a rattle at 3000 rpm when not under load. No rattle at idle or while under acceleration. Its from the engine. It does not rattle at start up . Motor is quiet at idle. Is this a symptom of a bad timming chain or adjuster. Also the freeking thing wont start changed both camshaft sensors . It will fire but just sputters. I used aftermarket ones which scares me !. It did run for a bit last night ran OK but whenit got hot is would not hold idle. I have spent 250 on sensors .I have not changed out the crankshaft sensor yet but I didnt get any oced for the crankshaft sensor ! Please help !!!!

Any sensors should be OEM. Check oil level for rattle, if full its most likely the timing tensioner not getting enough oil pressure to keep the chain at tension.

I read somewhere on the site that they used aftermarket and it still had the issue. So i would try OEM. Also the rattle sound i had was when i would accelerate and around 2500-3500 rpms. Its like a clamp like near the Y pipe and it has (2) 12mm bolt thats once i took that off the noise went away. Good luck
