Factory Fit Stereo recomendations with NAVI

Hi Guys, just picked up an SE 04 six speed without navi. (Picking it up this week actually). I would like to upgrade the stereo for two reasons. Blue tooth capability and Navigation.

Does anyone have any recomendations for a good HU that does both and would fit into the car. Even if some modification was needed? Also can you recommend a good install shop in the NYC/tristate area that does mods because apparently there is no standard aftermarket unit that just fits.

I have searched the other threads and really have not come up with much.

If you get the metra double din kit, not much modification is needed apart from installing the kit and the HU; the cutout is already made so that you just have to unscrew your stock deck and put the new one in place. The kenwood units are great - garmin navigation, bluetooth, all of the stuff you are looking for.

Depending on how handy you are, this really is a job that you can do on your own, and you can save $$ on installation and put it toward your new HU. If you choose to go this route, here are the parts that you will need to get you started:

1. Metra Double DIN dash kit: this allows you to put your new double din where your OEM cd / cassette deck was, your info screen will remain where it is:

2. Wiring harness: This allows you to wire up your new HU without cutting into your OEM harness:

3. Antenna adapter: Lets you connect your antenna. Pretty self explanatory:

4. Steering wheel control interface: If you'd like to retain the steering wheel control functionality with your new HU, you can use this interface. Used it with my kenwood and it worked pretty flawlessly. Installation was easy, no soldering of resistors needed:

Good luck with the project man

Cool. I will look into this. When I install a kenwood for example, does that mean all the radio controls up above will then be useless? I know the obvious answer is yes but I figure I'm better off asking than not.

Yep, you're right. the radio controls will be more or less going nowhere, so they will basically be dummy buttons. They will still light up though. All other buttons (fuel economy, etc) will function as usual.
