Cvt gone bad
#7
Well some of the symptoms where that in the morning the car would shutter on acceleration. Also in the morning when the cvt was still a lil cold it would not go into the so called overdrive ratio i dont how what to call it but it would have over 2k rpm cruising at 25mph. My driveway is on an incline not too steep but the Max would hesitate in reverse and felt like it had no power in reverse. But to be honest i bought her from a POS used dealership. Which I didnt read the reviews on them prior to the purchase. So with the long story kinda short my buddy is the Parts manager at my local nissan stealership. So i had him talk to a mechanic there that didnt mind doing the warranty work. I dropped it off on tuesday and they gave me a loaner car, so I should have it back maybe tomorrow. By the way when i went with the mechanic he said the Max seemed fine but because he knew how pissed I was with this car he said he was gonna do the work so I could have that peace of mind.

I have an 08 with 101,000 miles on it. All seems good still but I have noticed some issues. When I turn the TCS off and accelerate hard off the line and run the rpm's up and suddenly have to let off the gas the rpm's/cvt stay at the high rpm's and I have to either pop it into neutral and back in to drive or accelerate on and off to make the rpm's come back down to normal. If I do not pop it into neutral it can take a good 5 - 10 seconds to get back to normal. Also, I am not sure if these tranny's overheat or what but on a road trip a while back it felt like my tranny/cvt went into a safe mode or something because I could not bring the rpm's up past 4K or so...this only happened once when I was on backroads playing around with a mustang. When I got to my destination I parked the car and the next morning it was fine...weird.

yeah Jason5291 I had the samething happen with the RPM's hanging at 7k after i would get on it. It stayed a 7k until i let off the gas and then right back on the gas. Check the fluid level. The best advice i had was just bring it to nissan and have them document it that ur having problems so at least when something does fail (im not trying to jinx ya) they will have it documented.. Good luck

I had that RPM hanging thing happen to me once. But it only stayed around 6250RPM for liteerally 2 seconds after completely letting go of the gas. I was a little worried. But I had gone to the dealership after that to complain about vibrations I felt when accelerating. The did something to the heat shields, (maybe clamped or removed them...never bothered checking) and service manager said they reflashed cvt. The hanging thing only happened once and never happened again.
Let us know how that new transmission feels after you've gotten it.

Update guys i just picked her up and she drives great. Smooth no vibration not noisy. They also had to reinstall the crankshaft p sensor. It wasnt fully seated causing the slow starting problem. So far so good. Its about a 25 mile ride from the dealership to my home. It sounds weird but it feels like a brand new car. lmao. Good luck to all if you ever have your CVT fail...

Cman01 I had that problem. It was bad during the winter. Have it checked out and if u cause enough fuss the dealership should just replace it, and give u a loaner car all free of charge!!!

Will do, I also have to get them to look at the tensioners. I'm getting the infamous rattle.
