Paint touch-up help
I have a 06 maxima that is sheer silver mist or KY-1. I am trying to put the pic of the spot on here but no dice. Can I sand and clean and base coat. Then clear coat twice. Would it make a difference. Any advice is appreciated.

I wasnt trying to paint the whole bumper. I didnt do a big enough area and when i took it off it left the outline.
The paint i got was from advance auto. Big mistake. What happened was a woman did not know what the white lights on the rear of the vehicle were for.

It depends on the quality of work you want. For a pretty good job, 200 will get it done pretty well by the guys who do touch up and remove small dents paintlessly for your dealer's used car dept. If you want a like-new job, the bumper cover will have to be removed and replaced after it's painted, which is probably why you were quoted 400. In Chicago, 5 to 600 would be charged by many body shops, but if you shop around you could find one that would do it for 400. Depends also on the area to be painted. The shops that mix the original paint can't take into account fading, so you might need to paint a larger area than the actual spot for purposes of blending. My experience is, anybody can paint using a spray can, but few can paint well enough to just do a spot unless they know what they're doing and use a buffer to smooth and blend the final coat. Painting well usually takes a good deal of experience. Let the guy that does the used car touch up spray the whole thing without removing the bumper cover for about 200 and spend your time on less tedious and frustrating repairs, unless you're content with an average job. (You can use a buffing pad on an electric drill to apply rubbing compound, or even do it by hand.) If you do decide to do it yourself, post up before and after pics, please.
