hissing sound from engine
hissing sound from engine, pulley side, any clues what it could be?
Been doing it for years, nissan obviously always denied hearing something while under warranty. Way worse since this week.
Looks like a shot pulley, any clues?

I would put the car up on a block, take the wheel off and the spalsh-guard, and start her up and look for the issue. Get an old Windex bottle and put liquid dish detergent/water mixture in it and lightly spray the area you think where the hissing is coming from. That should help you narrow it down pretty quickly.
Seems like it's the alternator hissing.
Going bad? Or it might just hiss like that for a while? Seems like it's been hissing for years, but getting worse.
Should I replace with another alt or just not bother?

That is strange. Ayhoo, to replace or not replace? Well, I guess it will come down to whether you mind having a part fail and you having to tow your car to the shop, though it may never fail. Hard call, my friend.
Did you take to the dealership for an opinion?

last time I went ehre under waranty 2-3 of them played the "hey, can you hear something" game.
They all acted like they didnt hear anything when it was clearly hissing.
Even had a younger mechanic tell me that the bearing was catching and making noise, but they didn't want to do the job so they all acted like there was nothing.

That is just pitiful.
I've had a funny noise I hear more inside under the dash so to speak, also a weird hissing...only comes on after about 5-10 minutes at 70 MPH, and it only happens when in gear, ie, shift to N and reeve I don't hear it, in gear rev, it hear it get louder as I go faster...
More than $6000 later, all extended warrantee, they still haven't corrected it. Radiator flush, AC line cracked and replaced,Timing chain tensioner and guides twice, motor mounts, 5 or 6 different seals, water pump, most recently the Alternator just failed completely while driving...replaced all of that, and still the sound is there.
Don't know if that helps with your question about the alternator, but at very least, I feel your pain. Warrantee runs out in about 6 months, I sure hope they find it before then!

Alternator bearing could be bad. The unit comes with built in voltage regulator
