Weak Mileage? 2007 Maxima SL

I have a question regarding the 2007 Maxima SL fuel economy.

What average MPG is expected of this car? I bought it used, about 70k miles on it, and in excellent shape. I see the average is about 21 MPG, yet even with mostly highway driving, I struggle to get 300 miles off a full tank. Maybe it's just a perception issue, since my previous car was a 2000 Sentra, and got serious mileage out of a full tank.

Other issue is the tank size itself. I read that a 2007 Maxima, has a 20 gallon tank. Whenever my gas light comes on, I tend to fuel up not long after (since I'm still unsure of the fuel economy). A full tank, according to the pump, is 14 gallons. I'd expect a margin of error of about, 2 gallons, but 6 gallons seems a bit extreme maybe?

I love the car, and these aren't really complaints, but rather concerns that I have.

That's shocking to me. I get a tad over 30 on the hwy and I'm averaging like 18.5 in thick city stop and go. Yea, there's no way there is an error factor of 6 gallons. Where are you getting your numbers from?

maybe you need to do some preventative maintenance.
new air filter
clean maff
new upstream oxygen sensors
check spark plugs and gap
check tire pressure
check fluids
check wheel bearings
check brake pad for binding or drag

I'm sure i'm forgetting something. someone will chime in.

p.s. any DTC?

yup service manual confirms 20gal tank. I usually get about 17 gal in. here is a pic from another thread that confims it as well.Name: 0327121643.jpg

Yeah, I would say you are about dead on. That is what I get to a tank of gas, give or take a gallon. I live in a hilly area, so the car is constantly climbing, which uses a lot more fuel. If you live in a flat area, then you should be able to get 27-29mpg, in so long as you are driving the car conservatively.

The tank is 20 gal, but it's says *** miles until empty at about 16 gal...the 4 g is considered reserve, but note to the fuel pump must remain submerged, so anything past the 18 mark and you're asking for trouble.

So in theory, once that DTE is "flat-lined", I can maybe squeeze 60+ miles out of the tank?

Good to know.

I have probably squeezed 30 out of it at that point. Then the actual gauge will drop below the empty mark and I'm done challenging the limits! But it would be nice hear who has ran the most with a flat lined DTE!

2008 SL mileage

I bought my 2008 SL last august and when I got it the avg. Was 18.5 Hwy and 21 interstate. I put an Ingen full CAI and and a chip along with reg maint like plugs and she gets the a little better in the city but much better on hwy (closer to 28). I love my Max. Its faster and the engine has a nice low growl.
