Stock tires 06 SL?

Hey guys, I just read an article about stock tires on the current issue of Car and Driver. Basically it said that the stock tires on new cars are custom ordred by the engineers (Nissan for us) to meet the performance and comfort requirements they want. They tune the cars suspension around those tires. So, if you want your car to feel the way it did when new, you should try to find the exact tires it came with. Now, I bought my 06 SL used and it has Michelins from Costco on it (the cheapest ones they sell). It feels kind of stiff over bumps even though its supposed to be a smoother car than the SE. My dad has an 06 SE and his rides about as stiff as mine. So does anyone know what the stock tires were for the 06SL? The article says their is a certain letter code on them and even tires with the same name have diffrent designated codes for your exact model.

I would never in a million years buy my stock tires. I want to live to see another day.

My car was too slow and handled like poop when new, no thank you, would not want a stock Maxima of any generation.

You're reading into it too much and seem slightly gullible. Tire sizes and specs have a lot of information, load rating, speed rating, aspect ratio, M+S, etc.

In short, get whatever tire fits your needs and budget. I have 2 sets of tires, Summer & Winter.

www.tirerack.com is VERY informative.

The stock tires are defective on this car. I had three tires inside sidewalls crack all the way around. 1 of the three blew out, sounded like a shotgun. That was how I found the other three cracked all the way around. Replaced all 4 that day. There also was a recall that Nissan did on the tires where they gave you money for your tires or credit toward a different brand. I was just outside the required window to get compensated. Will never own a set of Goodyear tires again after that. The tires are Goodyear Eagle RSA 245/45/18. That is for the 18 inch rims though. Some Maximas came with 17 inch rims.

Continental Extreme All Season and you won't look back trust me on this. I have owned 5 different set of tires on this car alone and this is the second set of this brand. The first set I sold with old rims when I got new rims with different tires allready on them.

Just put any good brand tires that are sized for this car. All 6th gen maximas are stiff no matter what tires you will be using, it is a sport's sedan, not a touring sedan. Tires are low-profiled, you will never ever get a comfortable ride from low-profiled tires, but what you do get is great handling. The article you've read is just bunch of hype. But yes, there was a bad batch of RSA's once, but these tires got improved after that. They are also much more expensive these days, RSA's are not a bargain anymore.

sounds like the article was written or at least moderated by an oem parts supplier. I choose oem versus aftermarket on a lot of parts, tires are not one of them. there are lots of options, make sure your struts are good, bad struts will also give a rough ride.

Thanks guys

Hey thanks for all the great info guys. This being a sports sedan not touring makes sense as far as the ride being kind of still. Also that the tires are low pro. I'll look into the ones you guys recommended. Thanks again.

Hey guys I just found out that my car comes with a full size spare on an alloy wheel just like the ones that are on the car. The original owners never used the spare so I still have a new original tire and wheel. I guess they were supposed to rotate the spare with the other four but, they never did. Well, the tire is a Continental Contipro contact. These were not defective like on the '04 models. Do you guys think I can still use it since its brand new but seven years old (2006 car)? I was thinking of putting the most scuffed and scratched of my four wheels in the trunk as a spare and using this one since the wheel is in perfect shape and the tire new.

I'm thinking of switching it out with the wheel that's got the most scuffs on it and keeping that one as a spare then only having to buy 3 tires. You guys think that tire is still safe to use since its new but 7 years old?

server error connection timed out...

So... my last post was on here 3 times because every time i submitted it, this site would tell me there was a server error and connection timed out; post not accepted. I gave up after three times and when I looked at the thread, to my surprise, all three tries were there.
Anyways, I appreciate Amerikaner83's short sweet and to the point answer. Just not the semi-condescending remark about my asking so many times.
I would appreciate anyone else who has more to add. Thanks to all.

I personally would not use the spare as a daily driver. Plus putting a tire that is new with used worn down tires is not good for tire wear and alignment.

You're welcome

And I want to remember, that there was an article about tires that said something like after 5 or 6 years the tire's "expired".
