Issue: Delayed Automatic Shift from Drive-to-reverse (or vice versa) Max SE 2004...

I have an issue with my 2004 Maxima SE Automatic and wanted to check to see if anyone here has experienced anything similar (apparently transmission related):

ISSUE:Whenever I shift from Park->to-> Drive or Drive-> to -> Reverse (or vice versa and interchanging of combinations), I get at least a 1-2 second delay (which is a relatively long time) and a "jerking" effect beforethe car gets into gear, then car proceeds to move in the desired direction.

If you have experienced something similar with this model, or similar -- what was your root cause? and what was your resolution? Was it a relatively moderate DIY -- or Major Mechanic work to fix it? And if you haven't experienced this -- for the mechanically automotive inclined individuals here -- what do the above mentioned symptoms sound like?

Thanks in Advance

Your valve body is going or has already gone south. Unfortunately this is a widespread issue; happens to the best of us. New part costs about $800 from Nissan. People have replaced it themselves. Write up and more information can be found in the thread at the top of the page.
