2004 Maxima SE power seat problem

Ok, so I just bought my 2004 Maxima SE on Sat. morning. After signing all the paper work and everything, I realized that the driver side power seat does not work and the power steering wheel tilt does not work either. Anyone have any ideas about how to fix this? Is this a typical problem Please help!

The seat is ALL power. Doesn't move manually at all. All fuses are good (i believe). Is there just the one fuse box on the driver side and under the hood? If so, they are all good. The passenger side works, just not the driver. But the steering wheel tilt doesn't work either.

You might want to check the harness under the driver's seat and make sure none of the wires are damaged. If one of these wires is pinched it can cause the symptoms you're describing.

The power seat I believe is a recall item, might get it repaired for free. The tilt for the wheel is mechanical and has absolutely nothing to do with the other. I would suggest playing with it, it could be stuck.

Actually, the steering wheel, door mirrors, driver seat, and I believe the pedal as well are all connected by the auto drive position control system. If one those wires comes loose or gets damaged it can cause both the seat and the steering column not to function properly. It happened to a buddy of mine.

yeah my bad, I didn't give the best of advice on this. I don't have the memory seat function. I have power seats, just not the 1/2 push button for memorizing seat position and what not. My tilt wheel is done manually not electronically.

I called the place I bought it from, they said I would have to pay for it and they wont cover it!!! And yes, I read that the power steering tilt and seat are tied together. But I cant find anything wrong with the wiring. I'm giving up until I have money to have it checked out.

I bought it as is. They also sold the car to me with a nail in the tire and it wasnt repairable. I saw it was a little low but not really that much lower. But a couple days later it was completely flat and I had to get a new tire.

Ok so fuses are good, harness is good, and it sounds like the auto position control unit is getting power since the sideview mirrors are still working. Im thinking the unit itself is bad but I would recommend taking it to Nissan for a proper diagnosis.

OK thanks! I can get that part for about 35 dollars so I might just buy the part. The closest Nissan dealer is over 40 miles. So if it isn't the part, then Ill return it and go to the dealer.

I had the same thing happen to mine. I took out the drivers seat, played with the wires. I connected everything back as it was and boom, works like a charm.

That I remember no, I played with the wires because I read a thread in here about it. If I remember correctly the wire harness is a recall.

Yes they rerouted mine after service one time many years ago and the seat pinched the wire and killed it.

I didn't have time to pull the seat, but I did reach up under the seat to feel around for any loose or pinched wires. Didn't feel anything obvious, but the seats and steering wheel are working now.

I called Nissan about recall #49984 and they said it's only for the lumbar portion of the seat and has nothing to do with the wiring harness getting pinched.

My lumbar broke 2x on the car and I didn't even bother fixing it the third time as I figured it would just break again because of poor engineering. The pinch problem was the entire back portion of the seat and that never reoccurred once fixed. Little things like thisreally annoyed me because there were so many little things that added up.
