OBD2 says it can not connect to car "HELP"

After putting in new Pioneer after market radio in car I now have "Check Engine" & "Air Bag" light on. My neighbor brought over code his reader (he owns a foreign auto repair shop) & it said "Can not communicate with car", he said it may be a fuse. Checked fuse panel no blown fuses.
Please help
Garry

Try using the SES lamp diagnosis method. You might get a P1001 code which is a CAN error. My own car won't talk to a scanner either, but drives fine.

I'm at work right now. When I get home, I'll find your harness on ASSIST and tell you where to find the fuse.

I tried this I found but didn't work
AIRBAG LIGHT RESET/DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

From User Mode to Diagnosis Mode:
Diagnosis mode activates only when a malfunction is detected, by turning the ingition switch as follows:
1. Turn ignition switch "ON".
2. After "AIR BAG" warning lamp lights for 7 seconds, turn ignition switch "OFF" within 1 second.
3. Wait more than 3 seconds.
4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 three times.
5. Turn ignition switch "ON".
SRS will enter Diagnosis mode, if no malfunction is detected.

From Diagnosis Mode to User Mode:
After a malfunction is repaired, turn ignition switch "OFF" for at least one second, then back "ON". Diagnosis mode is returned to User Mode.
Is this what you are speaking about?

What year is your car? It's not in your profile.

Did you connect the ground correctly. The black wire on the harness is supposed to go to a screw to ground, not the wiring harness itself. I did this when I installed my head unit and caused all sorts of crap in my car. Check your wiring again.

Most foreign cars will not communicate through CAN. Until it was mandated on all vehicles sold in the u.s. past 08'
Ob2 on 4 and 5th gens is nothing but the dLC connector even Though it was mandated for 96' It will not command or activate output sensors you can only read codes and reset pcm

Make sure you have battery power on pin #16 (last pin)

Will only communicate through global mode obd2. Do not go and type vin and year. Go into generic global mode and data stream it on mode $01
Also check pending codes on mode $07

update

I did ground the radio & it works fine, & I did clear the check engine light by taking off neg lead to battery for 24 hours then putting it back on.

Evidently when I put the new radio in I had to disconnect the airbag light. It set the airbag light off on instrument panel & I still cannot get it to go off. I found a list of sequence of how to reset it with timed things to do & it still wont go off on instrument panel.

Lastly I can not find where my obd connector is fuzed to the panel to change it. The OBD still says it can not connect to car.

2008 Maxima

Thanks

Thanks
I have changed out my radio 3 times now and have not once had to mess with the airbag anything. I didn't even disconnect the battery. Actually did it with the car still on and running so I didn't freeze to death one of the times. I think you may have issues non related, might be time to go to the stealership.
