Catalytic converter problem

I bought my maxima like a week ago, and the seller said it needs a new cat converter.
Can i just buy the universal cat converter?

yes, I believe magnaflow makes a universal. U'd just have to cut your flanges and weld it in.

I was told by one really reputable and experienced exhaust shop owner that with nissan and honds the after market cat is pretty much a gamble. It will cure the bad cat issue but may not get rid off the code in all cases.

I am experiencing the same issue right now if you look at this thread.

My county does not require emission inspection anyway. I am replacing it because damaged cat prone to damage motor if keep running it without getting repair done.
