After 5.5 years with my Maxima... I'm fed up.
My third transmission went out on me last week. 123000 miles and I couldn't have been more disappointed with this POS. For some stupid reason some idiot bought my Maxima for $4000 knowing it had a bad trans. I'm moving on to an 08 Pontiac G8 GT. I'd say it's been fun, but it really hasn't!

Wish you had done some reading on that car before buying, the 6th gen maxima is notorious for transmission failure. Shoulda got that bad boy 6 speed manual that thing is super fun to drive stick, sorry your experience was a bad one.

When I bought the car, transmission problems were more prominent in the 5 speed auto, not the 4 speed which was what I had. I wanted a 6 speed but I'd have better luck getting struck by lightning than finding one of those.

You were aware that they made a shift kit for your 4speed. I don't recall ever seeing a post on you having an issue with your 4speed. It is unfortunate that you have to move on. Please stick around non the less as you along with everyone else are valuable assets to this website. Your experience and knowledge could help out some other guy who falls into that same hole. Good choice on your next car. You would not be the first to change over to the G8. Probably not the last either. :P

I'll stick around, probably won't post much but I really didn't anyways. I'm really gonna miss a lot of the creature comforts that the maxima had but the v8 sound every time I mash the gas will quickly make those memories fade away!

I have one of those - a 2005 SE 6MT that I'm getting out of because of....
transmission problems.
Actually, it "just" needs a pressure plate to get running, and then it has emissions codes to resolve. When it's running, it runs great as it has lotsa bolt-ons, but I can't bring myself to spend on any more labor-intensive repairs.

rollin on 260,000 on my 95 and i have done a $hit-ton of repairs. i guess it all depends on how much time you have to fix and if you have the right cono's to get the repairs done cheaply enough or the the time and tools to wrench maxy yourself. without the org, there's no way i would've had this car for almost 9 years and i saved a load of cash buying used parts and new online and reading for hours on how to do basic repairs. god bless teh org
