Your list is normal for a car that approaches 10 years of age, we have all been there, don't sweat too much. And no, your list is not over. If you still plan to keep the vehicle, you will eventually replace every single part. Mind you, I used to drive 96 maxima, bought it for $9,000 and got whopping $500 9 years later with 310K miles, when traded it in. So think twice before investing more into repairs. Cheers!

You actually may have either hit the nickel and dime time or you just ended up with a bad apple. The transmission so far is all i have had to replace. I've had mine for 6 years now and haven't had to replace anything but oil filters and pads. I would definitely start looking for another max. IMO

Love my 5.5 gen. Got it at 37k in October 2004, and it now has 147k.

Only replaced 1 MAF (90k), 3 batteries, 1 set of front brakes, 1 set of rear brakes, 1 set of drive belts. And a lot of tires.

man just get rid of that car, youve got a lemon. most 6th gens are grenades waiting to go off

find another car with normal lower levels of maintenance. pass off the headache to someone else

Seems as if he's one of the fewer guys on this forum at least that appreciates his 6th gen though.

acercomp71 I'm planning on getting a preowned Range Rover or an X6 soon so all this maintenance is preparing me for what's to come( in other words i'm trying to look at it on a positive note in some way)

cornfedmax I don't mind repairing this 6th gen its a relief compared to the contour I drove for 9 years i'm in heaven right now!

NmexMAX We had an 02Se when I was in High School 2001 loved it man most reliable generation of all time.

viking89 I spent $9000 on repairs I hope to keep it for a side car when I upgrade .

Yes! It definitely is a relief. I owned the Mercury equivalent, aka the Mercury mistake.

cornfedmax hahahaha that's what I had a red Mystique 98 I call it a Contour because people usually dont know what one is. If the squad members of the Maxima forum only knew what 9 yrs of owning that was like they'd get why shelling out 9000 over 3 yrs to keep a 6th gen running is heaven in these parts!

People shouldn't know what it is! Good idea, bad design. I mean don't get wrong, that little v6 moved it along pretty good but other than that i have nothing.lol

Anyways, let us know which way you go with picking the new car.

cornfedmax I'm looking for a big SUV Armada,Range Rover,GX 470 I don't want anything American made but i'm considering a Tahoe. When you have a big ride like that its good to keep a side car so i'll have the 6th gen for a spare.

I'm struggling to decide whether or not to keep my 6th gen. I've got to replace almost all of those parts you listed and then some. It's still going, but the car starts, idles and drives like a friggin tractor. I've gotta get new plugs, need four new wheels, new cats, o2 sensors.. just redo the entire car.

moNYtx All these cars have issues nowdays this stuff is actually like to compared to some of other vehicles on the market read this and you'll feel lucky http://www.carcomplaints.com/worst_vehicles/

The reason I fixed all that stuff on mine was because I drove a Contour for 9 yrs 02 to 11 2002-2004 to high school 2005-2011 to college community then 4 year so I kind of feel in heaven compared to owning that. Just got lucky enough to where I have good income to fixing this stuff even though i'm not happy about having to do all that work man. I thought about getting a Lexus GS 06-11 but they tell me those have worse problems.

My best advice keep it as a side car and get you something else its always good to have an extra car on the side incase of an emergency.

pkallday632 That would be the low pressure A/C hose that you need to replace.

08 Max

Soooo, are the 08's any better than the other 6th gens? Hope so; mine has 85K and has been pretty good to me so far. Have had 2.5 years and put almost 40 K on in that time. Just front sway bar links, belts, and front and rear pads and rotors.

RandysMax a whole lot better starting with the transmission since 07-08 has a CVT its way more reliable and less problematic than the 5spd in 04-06. I have an 06 my brother has an 06 my uncle has an 04. We've had our fair share of issues. My grandmother has an 08SE never had a problem with it along with alot of other people I know.

I have an 04 SL 4spd with a little over 131K in NYC and the only things I had to replace were

Belts/Pads/Plugs/Filters/suspension/tires/cam sensors

And Last summer my Radiator Blew so I bought OBX Hoses and a Mishimoto Aluminum Rad along with new thermostat.

My Throttle body has been acting up so I bought the nwp spacers/big bore throttle body/fujita intake.

Next will be the Timing Chain along with a rehaul on my entire AC unit
Then Rust.

I plan to keep the car for another 20years. I drive a 2012 G37x on the daily so repairing the Max immediately isnt a priority. And since im replacing with performance parts I feel that it'll last a lot longer than another 10years.

I also try to keep an excel sheet of what went in with date mileage part # and price to see if prices drop or go up.

to OP i would consider cleaning the fuel injectors and getting a new pump.

Haha I do the same exact thing. Always get myself on that fence when my Max breaks down and look over to see if its better/cheaper in the long run to get a new car or stick with the Max.
And over the years ive grown to love and hate it. Yet this Max to me is like the last of the purebred IMO, since everything else is all CVT and steer by wire etc on the new Q infiniti's

Its simple basic engine and driver with some luxury/tech.

And tbh I like the body style of the 6th gen over the 7th or 5th and it looks better than the influx of everyone having a modded G35/G37.

I want to eventually hit a reliable 500whp with Turbo/Nos/RaceGas/Stroker Kit (but im in no rush).

And at the end of everything its still a Nissan Maxima, however its MY nissan Maxima and the perfect sleeper grocery getter

I always dream that if I hit the lottery id strip this car to bare metal and acid dip and weld all the seams and rebuild every inch of the car, right next to my Lambos.

jingiko lol hahahaha me and you the same when it works right its the best car in the world when its sick you wanna give up its like raising a kid with this thing.

You know what has me hooked I put a big set of wheels on this thing right and now you drive through the city and this thing glides like a missile. On the stock wheels it totally did not have that type of feel on the road. A friend of mine has a new Charger the other day he goes god this thing rides smooth. I go its the big wheels, but I dont brag on it because next week I feel like i'll be fixing another hose man.

Well that is good news; just having trouble with p0011 and p0021 codes; engine is running fine but these codes are showing up a little more often now. started it would be a few months before happening again. Now after crankcase flush and oil change it came back about 10 days/ 450 miles later.

I have seen a number of recommendations about solenoids as well as, was it camshaft position sensors... All the while the engine runs well.

Bought car August 2007 with brand new tires on it. Had drivers side headlight replaced.
Guess I got lucky picking the right car, and still on same battery from 2007. Oh, and I drive 2,000 to 3,000 miles a year. (Tires still have very deep tread. Many more years of life.)
Drives like a new car just like when I bought it.

LandsEnd you have the same battery in your 6.5 gen for 7 yrs? I don't wanna say that's impossible because I've had my 6th gen three years and been thru two batteries already.

RandysMax The 6.5 gens they seem to work out the kinks and flaws by then at Nissan. Those have stuff on them that us 6.1 gens should have backup camera, button the trunk that opens it,tire pressure monitoring. The other day my grandmothers check engine light came on for antifreeze on her 6.5 I dont think our 6.0 gens do that.

Dealer I bought the car from probably put in a new battery, & the air filter looked new as well. (The date stickers were never taken off the battery, so don't know for sure.)
6 years, and 10 months exactly if new. What battery comes with the car from manufacturer?
The brand I have is Deka?

Bought my 04 SE in 2006. It had 25K miles on it. So far:

1 - Both front window motors
2 - Transmission under Nissan Warranty @ 50K
3 - Struts and shocks
4 - Alternator
5 - Valve Cover Gasket
6 - Oil Cooler
7 - All Belts
8 - Working on camshaft/crankshaft sensors
9 - Now need an AC Compressor and main ac hose. $1,100.00

Car is now up to 188 K miles.
