Oil Change

I only ever use OEM filters and either Castrol Syntec (now known as Edge) in 0w30 or 5w30 or Mobil 1 0w30 or 5w30. Regardless of oil, factory filters are the only way to go for my cars or my wife's.

Just out of curiosity, and I promise I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but why not the OEM filter? I get mine straight from the dealership and never pay more than about $6, but usually closer to $5, and it uses a much better filtration medium.

1. any major brand oil filter will be as good as OEM most likely, any good filter will do just fine. Same refers to air filter, cabin filter, belts, plugs and other maintenance items. EXCEPT K-matic trans fluid, that does have to be a dealer item, show no doubt or you will be sorry if transmission fails.
2. big box stores and auto parts places are often located more conveniently then dealerships, i.e. no 10-mile trips just to buy a damn filter.
Hope that makes sense and thanks for reading.

The reason I stick to OEM filters is because the filtration medium is a much higher quality fiber piece whereas almost all parts store filters (Fram, Wix, etc) use a cardboard like paper material that doesn't filter particles as well.
I definitely understand the convenience aspect. I live over an hour away from the nearest Nissan dealer which makes it difficult to just go get a filter which is why I normally buy them 8-10 at a time.
In any case, I was just curious. Thanks for the reply.

mobil 1 5w30, and fram filter.
I don't really like to go to the dealership, it's far from my house and poorly located, hard to access with traffic.
Has worked for the past 140 000km no issues.... change oil every 8000km. (did 6000 km when under warranty).
Maybe I could get the oem filter, I don't know, they probably sell it 15$ here in canada. maybe on another car, this one is now 10 years old, and still fine on aftermarket filters.

Do what you want, it's you car, just keep in mind that these forums are literally flooded with posts about ruined transmissions. There is always a possibility that you could be next if you continue using aftermarket transmission fluid. Good luck with Amsoil, jut remember: better be safe.

I believe Asand1 did some measurements with a larger NAPA filter somewhere on here.

The fluid only needs to meet JWS 3309 specifications. In addition to several manufacturers for OEM house brands, Mobil and AMSOIL also offer fluids that meet that specification.
As far as my car, we have owned it since new. The solenoids had to be replaced at 94,000 miles despite using Matic K fluid. When that work was done, the shop completely flushed out all of the dirty Matic K ATF and replaced it with AMSOIL. 3 years and 52,000 miles later, all is still well. It has worked out well for me.
I have no complaint about Matic K other than it is inconvenient to procure.
I have a Dodge Ram CTD equipped with a NV4500 5 speed transmission that requires a very specific Castrol oil for it's carbon fiber synchronizer rings. Once again, AMSOIL offers a suitable alternative that has worked very well. They seem to know what they are doing.

I feel the PUREONE is superior at the same price. I also buy the longer filter.
