5.5 gen vs. 6th gen FINALLY tested

So my brother bought a 5.5 gen. He downgraded from a g35 because he didn't want to make payments anymore. However he found a 2003 5.5 gen, and get this, he literally bought it from an old lady who drove it to church and grocery store. She is the original owner bought it brand new. Serviced it every 3k miles (as all the shops will tell you even though we know we can go 7k with synthetic) basically she babied it like there was no tomorrow. I went with him, it still smelled like a new car. I bet no one ever stepped foot in the back seats. He went home with a brand new car with 22,000 miles on a 2003 3.5 liter maxima. It's the dream every max owner would love to make a reality. Gotta love those gandmas.

I have a 6th gen but mine is heavily modded so on the way home we raced to the speed limit and he tried to keep up on the on ramps. close but NO cigar. But I had the elusive (S*** talking 5.5 totally stock gen) in my hands. IN MY HANDS!!!!!!! FINALLY. You all have no idea how long it took for me to get a 5.5 gen willing to race a 6th gen to put this crazy stupid myth that a 5.5 gen is faster than a 6th gen to rest. my GOD.

SO I needed to find a completely stock 6th gen maxima. Not hard. My neighbor has one. Well, it's his moms and she lets him use it cause he doesn't have his own car. (loser lol) on it was 60k+ miles, so it was several times older and worn out than the 5.5 gen. so we took the car to an abandoned air strip on private property. I was so eager to find out which one was fastest I offered 20 bucks to the nights winner [note, its not my property, my dads friend used to live there, he is selling it but the guy has his own runway cause he owned 2 planes, again the house is on the market but no one lives there. I'm not getting into any details about it. its about 1/4 mile long, 1/2 mile if you count the dirt road before it] Basically its on private property and the race took place off road on private property where it is completely legal to do such things.

SO we have a bone stock 5.5 gen (automatic) vs. a bone stock 5.5 gen (automatic) and the racing commences. We started on the pavement from a dead stop. right off the bat the 6th gen took the lead and then kept it, after 3rd it crawled away. we did this several times with the same result. Then we did rolling start. again the 6th gen took the lead and then crawled away. I got in the 6th gen to see if adding an extra body would even the odds, and even though I slowed it down, the 6th gen STILL took the lead (slower). After about 10 races we all agreed the 6th gen was faster. Then we decided to have some fun and go from dirt road to road to see if hitting over 70mph would make a difference. The lighter 5.5 gen actually took the LEAD!!! ..........for about 4 seconds before the 6th gen caught up and then BAM we hit hit road, luckily both guys stayed on it and we kept flying we hit over 100 mph (yes I am still in the 6th gen) and it was leading by almost 2 car lengths) We passed the stack of rocks we set up and had to slam on the brakes but over all

THE 6TH GEN MAXIMA IS FASTER THAN THE 5.5 GEN MAXIMA ANY DAY OF THE WEEK!!

argue with me all you want, you weren't there, I was. And even still I have yet to see a single 5.5 gen guy step up to take this challenge with me. All i hear is 5.5 is same engine and lighter chassis blah blah BLAH BLAH BLAHHHHH. yet NOone is willing to put it to the test. well I finally did, and as I thought Nissan's newer better version of their maxima has new better performance than their older versions.

So the question has been answered, a 6th gen maxima is faster than a 5.5 gen maxima. PERIOD It would make 0 sense to make a sports sedan faster than its upgaded version.

These conditions favored the 5.5 gen as it was a younger more well maintained car and still lost. they were both automatics. there were probably about 13-15 races done where the 6th gen won every single time. It is undeniable.

I am finally at ease and happy with the result. Again if any of you in southern california cant cope with this fact, come find me, as long as you are not f/i we will go to irwindale or fontana race way and we can wager some $$$ on the winner. Again, every 5.5 gen I've contacted in my area has pussed out and my old car is pushing 150k miles.

basically..... WHAT?! ...... WHAT?!?!..... do something about it.

I love how much denial there is but not one single 5.5 gen is willing to meet me at a track... Not a single one... eh hem, not a single one.

not a single one

not a SINGLE 5.5 gen is willing to put their money where their mouth is.

not a single 5.5 gen will do anything but flap their lips.

NOT A SINGLE ONE!!

You have the losing car... of course you won't agree. this makes your opinion invalid.

I LIKE THIS GUY ^

BUT again, ^ wrong.

1. I have a 7th gen Maxima = faster than 6th gen
2. I have an e36 M3 = WAY faster than anything you've ever driven
3. I would put my VQ30DEK against your 6th gen and most likely win. You got no chance against a 5.5gen, sorry dude.

The truth is, YOU have the losing car. And I know you want to make it seem better than it really is, but the truth is you bought a 6th gen.

I recently sold my 700 whp C5 vette. Before that I owned several sport bikes. Honestly, I don't see the point in arguing over which 14 second car is faster? Serious question... Do you feel any difference in acceleration between either car? Isn't that the point with a daily driver? I'm not able to tell the difference between driving my 2001 max and a friends 6th gen. I will say that my step dad's 2012 is noticeable. Off topic, but even the supposed 276hp Hyundai sonata felt about the same as my car. I think a lot of it has to do with the gearing and transmissions used. The 328i features a 3.0-liter inline-6 that produces 230 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque, but feels quicker than the sonata. Ok, carry on.

If you didn't act like such a fool, maybe more people would be willing to take you up on your offer.

I don't see why you're all excited about proving that a stock 6th gen is faster than a stock 5.5gen. Your sample size is much too low to validly claim that a stock 6th gen is faster than a stock 5.5gen.

Proof?

Video?

I seriously doubt these claims. Which is what you are making without a timeslip/video/etc.

Why would you make such a claim without at least a video?

You're simply stirring chit to get people mad. Which is pretty immature all things considered.

IBTL....

Bad driver + teenager + street racing + no actual knowledge of car racing = this thread.

Take both cars to the drag strip. Have the same driver make a minimum of three passes on the same night. Average them out and report back with time slips and proff.

The rest of this thread is theory and has no relevance....btw stop street racing. It's dumb.

its a well know fact that the 5.5 gen is an oil burner and it cares less if it was driven by an old lady, the pope or the stig... most likely the precats are clogged thus your "comparison" is not correct. I have pulled many 6th gen with my 5th gen, yea I know I have a manual but you think you "extra hp" from the 3.5 oil burner will take me down??? Wrong... 6t gen are nice car and are heavy compared to the 5th gen

^ This dude is right, good response. I would say difference in acceleration plus handling and comfort really are what matter for a daily driver. And that beemer IS faster, doesn't just feel that way, BMW horsepower + tranny and gearing is just a bit different.

on pics + videos? Then we can do IBTL..

The 6th generation is faster. How do I know. It just is OK now deal with it! (My view might be biased.)

6th gen auto vs 5.5 auto. Wouldn't surprise me if the 6th gen won with the updated tranny. 6 speed vs 6 speed I think the 5.5 would win simply due to weight.

By updated tranny I assume you mean the added valve body problems?

Even with 5AT the 6th gen wouldn't win due to weight and drag, simple logic really.
