spiral cable
spiral cable
Is there a way of testing the spiral cable, or airbag module on a 2007 maxima without replacing them? I bought my car this June with 130,000 thousand miles on it. The airbag warning light was off when I purchased it.
After about one week of ownership, I parked next to the curb. Being proud of my car I moved the steering wheel to where the loge was perpendicular. When I went to start it later, it would not start, the switch would not move. A friend came over while I was freaking out and shook the heck out of the steering wheel until it unlocked. I believe it was after this that I started to have problems with the light. I can reset it manually, but it allways comes back on while driving. Usually right away, but sometimes it takes awhile. I tested it with a innova 3100, it did not show any codes. I bought an autel al619 scanner and was able to reset the light. It came back on. I checked for codes and b1049 and b1054 (drivers side airbag module open). Reading in my shop manual I read that it can be the connectors, the harness or the spiral cable or airbag module. I have read a lot of people having to replace their spiral cable. I am a newbie, but good at solving problems. I would like help in diagnosing what to replace without replacing everything. Of course I will unplug and plug the connections first. I feel like that possibly shaking the steering wheel like a banshi caused my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This thread might be for a more experienced owner to answer. Please help.
after I park the car I can erase the code and reset the light. I then check it again and it tells me no faults, till I take it for a drive and then the two codes come back.
