04 Headlight on SE

My passenger headlight went out due to moisture getting in and burnt the ballast. Now i'm having to replace the the whole light assembly.
My question: Do you know if this year and model has HID lights or Halogen bulbs. I can't find that info in the manual.

Other thing I thought about is getting an HID kit for both light. Recommendations highly welcomed.

Thanks for the help guys.

Call any Nissan dealer and give them VIN# and ask for headlight assembly. Take part# down on piece of paper and go from there. You can also buy aftermarket unit, if you want, but exact fitment is not guaranteed, I've had bad experience with aftermarket corner light on previous car, it was 4th gen. It just wouldn't fit, had to shave some excess plastic, and then slide it in.

thanks, great suggestion. I appreciate it.
So, I just called and it is an HID xenon light. for the whole assembly is $$$$1200.00$$$$$
That is insane!
So the next question is: What's the best HID kit I should purchase? Has anyone put HID KIT on 04 SE?

Thanks for helping a newbie here!

Looks like you already got an answer for what headlights you have, but for anyone else with an 04-06 that doesn't know just look at the lower corner of your headlights. It should either say HIR2 (halogen) or D2S (HID). This only applies to 04-06, I don't think 07-08 has any indication on the outside.

If you are sure it's the ballast that is bad, then just buy another ballast, no need to buy a complete headlight assembly. Ask theretrofitsource.com if they have any Matsush!ta Gen III or Gen IV ballasts, I don't know if the Gen V ones they have on the site will fit correctly. (In Matsush!ta replace the "!" with an "i", if I spell it out correctly the name gets censored)

+1 to Joecurr and Chris

Just get a replacement ballast if you are for sure thats the problem. Look for used OEM ones on ebay for about $80ish. If you are mechanically inclined enough to remove your own bumper then swap the working headlight's ballast over to see if it works on the other side. That will confirm if its the bulb or ballast.

As a side note, ballasts that are compromised due to water damage can be fixed by opening them up and leaving to dry for a few days. Sounds crazy but it works!

smplyamzng I wash mine once a week I gotta be more careful now because when I found out that light wasn't working I had a fit like a angry African Baboon. It turned out to be a cheap HID bulb which was good because ballasts cost quite a bit.

Having the same issue with washing mine. Did you ever open up your headlights...resealing is one of the most critical steps.

Chris Alexander I popped this one open you know what when I wash it around the outer edges of the lights that are exposed where water can seep in i'm gonna cover it with duct tape before I wash it.

04 SE Headlights

Great stuff guys, thanks for all the info that can help othes. I did not know about the letters on front of light.
I ended up getting a HID kit just for the simple fact that a OEM bulb would cost $300ish at dealer?
I still have the problem with condensation in my light. Questions:
What would be the best way to seal the light again? I heard caulking? Not sure.

Thanks!
