Need Help with P0037 05 Maxima SE

Hello guys this my first post on the forum and I need your help.

I have a 2005 Maxima SE and I need to pass emissions (I live in Fairfax, VA).

So a couple of weeks ago I went to have my emissions done and the guy doing the emissions told me that the CAT and O2 sensor would not read. He told me to drive the car around for 25 miles then bring it back. I want another day after drivin around for a while and the same problem occurred.

He told me to take it to my mechanic and see whats happening then bring it back.

I have gotten most of my work done at my local Nissan dealer so I took it to them and explained the situation.

The service guy came back and told me that both my B1S2 02 Sensor and Vent Control Valve need to be replaced since they are faulty.

They are asking $389 for the O2 Sensor and $499 for the Vent Control Valve and thats without labor.

So after talking to a few friends I decided to look at the ecm code myself. I went to advanced autos and one of their employees scanned my code and the only code that popped up was P0037.

I looked up P0037 but their are many possibilities. From your knowledge what do you guys thin it is and do you think I should pay Nissan to do it or is this something that anyone can buy and replace??

I think it could be the Bank 1 Sensor 2 O2 sensor and the Vent Control Valve. If they hooked up the Consult tool and scanned the car, then they gave you the right diagnostic. Not saying you should never doubt the mechanic, but if they have been doing all of your work for you, and you haven't had any problems before then believe what they are telling you. I would ask them if they install other than Nissan parts that are OEM capatible if you bring them in. Most will, not all. If they do, buy aftermarket and have them install the sensors. That will save you a bit of money. I would go with Bosch O2 sensors. The Vent control valve might be nissan only. Also check online for Genuine nissan parts that are cheaper.

These might not be the exact parts, recommend using the site and finding out the part numbers. You can get nissan part numbers by going to the parts department in Nissan and asking for a quote printout. Then take it home with you and look them up on the site and net and order them. The Vent control valve is a piece of cake to replace. If you are mechanically inclined even a little bit, you can do it in your driveway in minutes. The O2 sensors are sensitive, but also pretty easy to replace as long as you have a lift or jack stands. A muffler shop can replace the O2 sensors for you at a cheaper rate as well.
