06 Maxima Transmission Upgrade
06 Maxima Transmission Upgrade
I have a 06 maxima sl 5 speed auto. Transmission was replaced at 85000. I am now at 127000. I really want to keep this car and make it how I want. Coilovers, upgrade engine, bigger brakes and etc.. But the transmission is not reliable for those builds. I have a 100000 mile warranty. Not interested in having the transmission changed out routinely though. What other transmission can I put in here or how can I have it built to handle 350+hp? I know I can have it built to make over that with cams, intake manifold, injectors, fuel pump, pistons, tuned and so on. The transmission is why I haven't done this. Any suggestions on what transmission will work better or if a custom build is possible to handle hp?
There is only one 6th gen that has that type of power and that is Chernmax. He has his turbo'd. The transmission he put in was done by Level 10 transmission. This transmission can probably handle 400hp. The major default of the transmission is the Solenoids for the Valvebody. Replace those with the Rostra solenoids as described in the very first thread of this section and build away. No one has accomplished this feat yet so very hard to get positive answers. FWD cars don't have drag transmissions avail like the RWD ones do. This will be a test it out and see if it works ordeal. Good luck and hope it helps. Ohh Level 10 transmissions are good, just not bullet proof. From what I understand, even with that upgrade, Chernmax lost 3rd gear. He never posted why he lost it either. Whether or not it was the Valve body or the 3rd gear band or the gears inside. Might PM him and ask.
I was thinking about going with a 6 speed manual eventually. I know cost will be around 6k with performance parts but that should eliminate issues with the automatic transmissions. Seems a safe bet. Any thoughts on that?
